R&D Engineering Intern - Remote Therapeutic Monitoring
Description
R&D Engineering Intern – RTM
Role Overview
The R&D Engineering Intern – RTM will contribute directly to Inogen’s next-generation Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) ecosystem by building data-driven insights, prototype app features, and analytics tools that support Inogen’s respiratory products.
This role is hands-on and tactical, and ideal for students who want to apply data science and digital health design skills in a real medical device environment.
Key Responsibilities & Tactical Deliverables
Patient-Facing App Prototyping
- Assist in creating low-fidelity wireframes for an RTM mobile app (usage tracking, symptom entry, reminders, progress screens).
Deliverable: A clickable prototype (Figma or similar) showing at least three user flows. - Prototype simple rule-based digital nudges (e.g., reminders triggered when usage is low or symptoms worsen).
Deliverable: A logic map and sample message library for patient engagement.
Connected Care Model Mapping
- Map the end-to-end digital patient journey for RTM: device activation ? data ? patient-reported outcomes (PROs) ? provider dashboards.
Deliverable: A visual, single-slide workflow showing data touchpoints and RTM billing considerations.
RTM / RPM Metric Design
- Define the minimum set of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) for COPD and bronchiectasis RTM.
Deliverable: A PRO list with a proposed scoring rubric for Inogen’s digital health platform. - Propose adherence and response KPIs for internal dashboards (e.g., adherence percentage, symptom stability, session variability).
Deliverable: A dashboard mockup in Power BI, Tableau, or Figma.
Ideal Background
Education
Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Data Science
- Computer Science
- Biomedical Engineering
