Job Summary

As a Data Security & Governance Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in enterprise data management, focusing on data security, architecture, and governance aligned with the DAMA-DMBOK framework. You will support the implementation of best practices for protecting, organizing, and governing data assets, while learning how these processes enable compliance, risk management, and business value.

What will you learn

  • Fundamentals of data security, privacy, and protection in enterprise environments.
  • Principles of data architecture, including data modeling, metadata, and lineage.
  • Exposure to DAMA-DMBOK functional areas, with emphasis on Data Security, Data Architecture, and Data Governance.
  • Use of industry-leading platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI) for data management and analytics.
  • Collaboration with IT, business, and information security teams.

Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)

Data Security

  • Assist in developing and implementing data security controls and policies.
  • Support compliance efforts with GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and other data privacy regulations.
  • Participate in risk assessments and help document mitigation strategies.
  • Help monitor data access and support secure data handling practices.

Data Architecture

  • Contribute to designing and documenting secure, scalable data architectures.
  • Assist in mapping data flows, models, and metadata standards.
  • Support integration and automation of data processes using enterprise platforms.

Data Governance

  • Help build and maintain data catalogs, lineage documentation, and classification schemes.
  • Participate in data governance meetings and support policy implementation.
  • Assist in monitoring compliance and preparing for audits.

Qualifications (Experience and Education)

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s program in Information Systems, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Business Analytics, or related field.
  • Interest in data security, data governance, or data architecture.
  • Knowledge of Python for data management and automation.
  • Familiarity with data management and analytics platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Dataiku, Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI) is a plus.
  • Good understanding of predictive modeling, NLP in Snowflake or equivalent.

Inogen assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees.  The base salary for this position is expected to be between $21.19 and $23.37 per hour. However, actual base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and will be based on non-discriminatory factors, including as to individual skills, education, experience and market location.
