The Sr. Director, Communications and Public Relations is a key leadership role at Funko responsible for the creation, development and execution of all global corporate communications and consumer public relations strategies that support the Funko enterprise, our incredible portfolio of brands and our ambitious vision for the future.  The Sr. Director will partner across the executive leadership team, brand, and business functions to drive impactful communications and media strategies that build, promote, enhance and protect our company around the world.

The ideal candidate is a proven communications expert with a track record of building and delivering programs that move the needle.  They are a collaborative yet decisive team player with a can-do attitude, know how to seamlessly work across teams and initiatives, and excel in the delivery of thoughtfully crafted strategies, often on deadline and always in a fast-paced environment.

The Sr. Director, Communications and Public Relations is a natural leader who can manage between high-level stakeholders (internal and external), thinks big picture (but can connect the vision to tactics), and is able (and willing) to roll up their sleeves to show the way, establishing effective and repeatable approaches, processes tools to enable scale at a national and global level.  They can effectively manage multiple pillars of our overall comms ecosystem while establishing and balancing priorities across corporate, brand and product initiatives.  Strong communication skills, a strategic mindset, executive presence, and experience leading an innovative, culturally-centric brand to new heights through PR & communications are critical for success in this role.

  • Serves as a strategic, innovative and agile member of the leadership team accountable for achieving enterprise communications goals, increasing brand awareness and engagement through earned media opportunities, and leading as a key voice of the organization, our mission, and our culture, both internally and externally
  • Develops and implements integrated, comprehensive corporate communications plans that elevate and expand perception of Funko, reinforce our values and enhance our reputation at the local, national and international level
  • Advises and works closely with the CEO, executive leadership team and others to develop organizational positioning and communications strategies. Sets both proactive and reactive courses of action to public relations issues and crisis situations. Briefs company officials on sensitive and/or controversial issues and prepares scenario plans and recommendations
  • Develops and implements impactful consumer public relations strategies across the Funko portfolio that drive brand awareness, brand connection and product demand. Builds channel-specific strategies as well as integrated strategies that support our larger campaigns and initiatives
  • Oversees agency partnerships and finds synergies across our global agency network to drive consistency, cohesive narratives and scaling of our approach as we grow the business around the world
  • Creates and fosters strategic relationships with key media, directly and through agency partners
  • Oversees the development and continuous improvement of internal communications. Creates employee-based strategies that inform and reinforce our culture, mission and goals across all internal touch points
  • Builds strategic global communications organizational structure and oversees the hiring, retaining, and development of top talent in functional areas
  • Is and remains connected to the evolving global communications landscape, trends and shifts. Drives for continuous evolution and optimization of our strategies, processes and ways of working to enable growth and scale

Must-Have Superhero Gadgetry

  • 12-15 years experience in senior level communications positions.
  • Have a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in journalism, communication or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in successfully building, mentoring, coaching and leading a team of communications professionals. Proven ability to develop staff by identifying areas of opportunity and providing ongoing feedback, training and guidance.
  • Demonstrated experience and success in leading comprehensive organizational communications and community engagement plans including in crisis scenarios.
  • Experience working in a global, high profile company or with global, high profile clients, preferably for consumer brands in the pop culture space. Combined brand and agency-side experience preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of leading an organization in a period of growth and global scaling; has crafted and delivered strategic roadmaps, set KPIs and delivered upon expectations while collaborating cross-functionally
  • Excellent and persuasive communicator. Exceptional written and oral communications skills with emphasis on simplicity, clarity and audience-appropriateness
  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skill; owns the ability to effectively and efficiently collaborate with and/or influence senior executives and internal/external stakeholders
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, situational judgement and the ability to provide strategic recommendations in times of stress and ambiguity. Continuously serves as a model representative of the company culture and brand ethos

Compensation & Benefits

Funko offers a competitive compensation package with full benefits and a 401(K) plan with matching contributions from the company.  The starting base salary range for this position in the selected city is $150,000 - $200,000 annually. ​Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Rewards Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work. This role is eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

This position is based in Everett, WA.  A hybrid model or remote position can potentially be accommodated only if you reside in an eligible state for Funko employment.
