Are YOU our next Clinical Laboratory Assistant? 
We’re looking for a Clinical Laboratory Assistant to join our Toxicology-PRIVATE team in London, Ontario. You will be responsible for the preparation of samples and/or reagents for routine processing. Perform simple non-interpretive tests under the technical oversight of a Senior Clinical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Technologist as required. Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required. Independently perform simple non-interpretive tests escalating to a qualified Medical Laboratory Technologist for support and guidance as required. Ensure quality control checks and standards are run as required. Participate in all quality assurance programs and ensure company and Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines are observed. Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment as appropriate and deal with problems that arise. Your contributions will make a difference and will greatly impact the downstream solutions and treatment critical to saving someone’s life. 
This is a 12 month-full time contract position. Working rotating shifts between 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. Guaranteed 37. 5 hours per week.

How YOU will make a difference:
·       Ensure that all samples are properly labeled and identified before testing 
·       Follow established protocol for the handling of unsuitable samples
·       Operate complex instruments following department procedures
·       Perform simple non-interpretive testing procedures
·       Ensure that all abnormal, critical and STATS are processed as outlined in the department guidelines
·       Responsible for the follow-up on missing samples, documentation and results as and when required
·       Ensure all inquiries and problems are handled in a courteous and professional manner
·       Ensure adequate amount of supplies are on hand and that validated reagents and testing kits to be used are in date order
·       Data enter the results into the company’s database as required
·       Ensure that quality control checks are performed as required in documented work procedures
·       Refer results for Medical Laboratory Technologist to review
·       Responsible for monitoring quality control guidelines and making appropriate corrections
·       Responsible to follow all relevant pre and/or post analytical quality protocols as described in the company quality assurance manual
·       Perform routine equipment maintenance following documented procedures
·       Document all maintenance performed, including minor troubleshooting following manufacturer’s instructions
·       Observe and report all malfunctions in equipment and maintain all required logbooks for routine equipment
·       Responsible for disinfecting the work area and equipment on a daily basis
·       Store and discard specimens according to appropriate department procedure manuals
What YOU bring to the role:  
·       MLA Certification required or graduate of an approved laboratory assistant course or Diploma/Degree in Health or Science required
·       Excellent data entry skills required
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment 
Nice to have:
     Knowledge of AS400 Data Entry system/LIS
     Experience in Toxicology
Working Conditions:
·       Required continuous standing/walking with use of fine motor skills
·       Required to perform some carrying and lifting a maximum of 30 pounds
·       Exposed to biohazardous substances, chemicals and noise variances
·       Shift work required
