Are YOU our next Technical Specialist- Hematology?     
The technical specialist will work at our Brampton location to complement the duties of the Scientific Director by supporting test design, evaluation, validation, and verification of hematology assays and processes. This position is also responsible for assisting in the implementation of new products and services into the routine production environment, including the development of SOPs and ongoing quality assurance program activities.
The technical specialist will act in a consultative manner with the relevant Operations Managers with whom they are supporting; always first seeking to understand and providing well-reasoned advice on methodologies in a collaborative fashion while ensuring quality processes are maintained in the department.

How YOU will make a difference:     
  • In-depth hematology technical expertise maintaining working knowledge of hematology standard operating procedures and serving as the subject matter expert in method evaluation
  • Evaluation of new methods/instrumentation/workflows as outlined by the Hematology Scientific Director and prepares and supports the preparation of necessary documentation to fulfill Quality Assurance and Accreditation compliance
  • Submitting MFM requests
  • Supporting LIS interface UAT testing
  • Assess and validate methods, operate, maintain, optimize and troubleshoot these techniques and associated instrumentation in a clinical setting
  • Effectively transfer the learning so that new processes are implemented and maintained in operations and act as a lead resource for planning, training, implementation and troubleshooting post implementation
  • Undertake additional administrative activities in support of operations and for the fulfillment of the business plan
  • Coordinate project plans and activities and provides functional and technical expertise where needed, provide feedback to the Director on the status of projects and coordinate the flow of project information to relevant stakeholders
  • Maintain records of projects and assists with relevant documentation
  • Development, maintenance, and oversight of a hematology quality control program
  • Develops competency assessment tools for staff
  • Ensure the delivery of optimal Product and Service Development results against appropriate performance metrics (systems, processes, procedures and activities)
  • Establish, monitor, measure, and report performance metrics; analyse and identify issues impacting operational performance, and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure products and services continuously meet or exceed customer expectation
  • Partners with key stakeholders to ensure appropriate quality and performance measures are in place to meet any policy, compliance, or regulatory requirements

  • Maintain records of projects and assists with relevant documentation
  • Conduct original research and prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
 
What YOU bring to the role:
  • Minimum BSc in a related scientific discipline or Medical Laboratory Technologist with advanced training
  • Registered with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO) preferred  
  • Knowledge of advance analytical techniques and instrumentation such as automated high-throughput testing, microscopic analysis, flow immunophenotyping, hemostasis testing, immunohematology, and immunoassays.
  • Knowledge of fundamental diagnostic laboratory principles, specifically as it pertains to Hematology
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical, developmental, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change
  • Understanding and experience with advanced instrumentation and technology
  • Proficiency in technical, developmental, problem-solving and project management skills
  • Demonstrated leadership skills are an asset
  • Proficiency in scientific writing, including drafting and submission of manuscripts for publication
  • Oral presentation skills
  • Technical skills to verify/validate methods, including both automation and manual, and understanding of best practice/technical guidance documents (e.g., CLSI)
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., EP Evaluator) preferred
  • Project management skills preferred
  • Knowledge of MFM submissions and LIS interface UAT testing requirements
  • Quality Assurance principles
  • Quality Control testing
    
  
Working Conditions:     
  • Medical Laboratory Environment
  • Occasional local, or national travel may be required
     
    Pay rate: $72,000 to $90,000 annually  
    The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
