The Health Group is seeking a Health Editor for a contract role to work on and Verywell Health in the Transactional Group. This job requires strong editorial instincts, health expertise, and analytical skills to provide readers with thoughtful, jargon-free, research-backed health product recommendations. This candidate should be organized, comfortable with a fast-paced environment, and able to take high-level information and distill it into easy-to-read copy.


The Health Editor’s primary responsibility is to help edit content on these two verticals, including working with the in-house team and freelancers, publishing stories in the CMS, and working cross-functionally to resolve problems and hit our publishing goals. They will report to the Acting Editorial Director. 


Assignment Details:
40 hours a week
Five-month contract position
$35 per hour
Location: Remote or NYC

Assignment Responsibilities:


  • Assign, edit, and publish new health commerce content, and update existing stories on Verywell Health and
  • Stay current on health trends, news, and products, maintaining close contact with public relations agencies and trusted experts
  • Work with in-house editors and writers, editing their work and providing them with feedback
  • Work with outside partners, including freelance writers and medical review board members, to make our content as accurate, polished, and current as possible
  • Collaborate with other departments, including production and growth, to troubleshoot issues and resolve questions
  • Advise the research and testing team on which products to test, review testing methodologies, help choose which products to feature, and participate in testing and evaluating products
  • Knowledge of and experience with health trends and research
  • 4-6 years of editing experience at a digital publisher
  • A wordsmith and strong editor who conveys dense, important health information to readers in an approachable yet authoritative, brand-appropriate voice—and edit others to do the same
  • Experience working in CMS and a workflow tool like Airtable
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
