JOB SUMMARY

 

Drivers provide excellent customer service by making prompt and courteous deliveries of customer orders. Drivers make pick-ups as necessary, perform general warehouse duties and provide customer assistance as needed. This individual must perform all job responsibilities in a safe, timely and efficient manner and by performing the duties listed below.

 

LTL Drivers, in addition to the normal Driver responsibilities, are also responsible for a longer route to pick up copiers, printers, parts and supplies at Dex centralized warehouses and deliver to other smaller Dex locations. This will require day trips potentially performed outside of the normal 8am – 5pm business day (Overtime may be required) and occasional overnight trips. LTL premium pay may apply.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Load truck accurately and safely for customer deliveries.
  • Unload truck as needed at vendor and/or branch locations.
  • Plan and determine the most efficient routes to each destination promptly.  Use navigation systems or GPS devices to navigate unfamiliar areas.
  • Drive company vehicles to make customer deliveries and stock pick-ups, obeying traffic laws and safety procedures.
  • Verify the accuracy of delivery orders and obtain necessary signatures or documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate licensing, credentials and acceptable driving record.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner, following all safety rules, including wearing seat belts, using mirrors, and follow company cellphone policy and/or local laws. Inform manager of any potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Report any accidents, incidents or vehicle malfunctions promptly to the appropriate authorities and supervisor.
  • Treat external and internal customers and associates with courtesy and respect.
  • Fill customer orders by retrieving material from the warehouse and other locations.
  • Check in and put away material, verifying quantities and quality of received material.
  • Maintain clear isles and walkways.
  • Ensure the material is properly organized.
  • Aid warehouse associates as needed.
  • Report back-orders or discrepancies.
  • Perform cycle counts as required following through on discrepancies as needed.
  • Perform vehicle and/or forklift inspections as required, schedule routine or repair maintenance as needed. Maintain a clean and organized vehicle, conduct routine inspections, and ensure basic maintenance tasks are performed timely.
  • Assist in performance of year-end physical inventories for various branch locations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, vendors, and customers.
  • Maintain a safe driving record, obey all applicable traffic laws, and drive in accordance with weather and road conditions.
  • Specific skills are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include adhering to safety practices.
  • Basic math: understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions is required.
  • Knowledge of Traffic Laws and Safety Regulations: A driver should have a strong understanding of traffic laws and safety regulations applicable to their region. This includes knowledge of speed limits, road signs, right-of-way rules, and other driving-related laws.
  • Skilled at managing your time to ensure punctual arrivals and timely deliveries; must meet deadlines and maintain efficient schedules.
  • Have good attention to detail to accurately complete paperwork, inspect vehicles, and ensure the safety of materials.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and strong work ethic.
  • Operating handheld computers (e.g., inputting work orders, entering transactions and printing)
  • Operating equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, hand trucks and forklifts)

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

 

  • 0-3 years of driving experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license within the state of employment.
  • DOT Certification may be required.

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

 

  • Regular business hours. Some additional hours may be required.
  • May or may not have a climate controlled environment during normal business hours.  This could include unloading delivery trucks and breaking down trash outside.
