Position Description
As an Alternative Energy Engineer or Designer, you will be responsible for the design of alternative power generation and storage projects, including solar, micro-hydro, combined heat and power (CHP), and utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). This role will expose you to both utility-scale power generation and storage projects as well as building-coupled generation and storage systems. Successful candidates will have experience with behind-the-meter, grid-tied, and remote grid power generation and storage initiatives. You should be capable of sizing systems to meet project objectives and performing all necessary designs and calculations to complete construction documents.
**Position is in office in Missoula, MT - must be local or willing to relocate
Position Salary Range*
The expected salary range for this position is $78,000 to $95,000 annually.
Primary Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree or higher education in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent work experience
- 3 to 8 years of job-related experience including power generation, power distribution, and code design compliance
- Licensed Professional Engineer (or ability to obtain by comity) in the state of the hiring Cushing Terrell office (not applicable to designer role)
- Knowledge of Autodesk MEP Revit, Autocad, Bluebeam, PVSyst, Homer Pro, Homer Grid, ETAP (or Equal), Outlook, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong written, verbal communication and Analytical problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of electrical systems design including owner operated generation, AC & DC distribution design, and load calculations.

Position Responsibilities***
- Electronically draft plans, sections, and details under the direction of the Project Engineer or Independently.
- Design for various types of power generation including but not limited to Solar, Micro Hydro, Small Scale Wind, and Combine Heat and Power
- Possess an understanding of building and site electrical distribution system design.
- Possess an understanding of underground Medium-Voltage distribution design.
- Devise one-line and three-line diagrams for project that include low voltage and medium voltage information.
- Understand and perform short circuit and arc flash studies using computer-based programs (ETAP/SKM or Equal).
- Perform Solar Generation calculations using PVSyst or Equal Program.
- Understand and size systems for both utility scale and building connected power generation plants using Homer Pro/Grid.
- Comprehend the NEC codes and the application of them on project designs. Particularly Sections 210, 215, 220, 250, 310, and 690.
- Comprehend both the IFC and NFPA 855 for Solar and Battery Storage system design requirements.
- Edit project specifications for divisions 26 and division 27.
- Potentially be responsible for carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws
- Possibly be responsible for helping with interviewing and training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining team members, addressing complaints, and resolving problems

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidate’s years of experience, licensure status, location, level of proficiency, and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
