Responsibilities:

 

Perform all labour type tasks in addition to the following tasks under supervision when required:

  • Communicate utility related information to customers.
  • Traffic set up teardown.
  • Perform work on underground gas and water infrastructure within trenches and excavations.
  • Perform various maintenance activities on underground gas and water infrastructure including operating gas/ water valves, hydrants etc.
  • Work in all inclement weather conditions e.g. Rain, snow, hot and cold conditions repairing water and gas failures at all hours.
  • Complete all applicable forms/reports on paper and computers.
  • Drive dump trucks and operate other equipment.
  • Respond to and make safe various gas and water emergencies at all hours.
  • Pinpoint gas and water leaks.
  • Complete various gas and water infrastructure inspections.
  • Take water samples.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform 3rd party inspection as required.
  • Perform water quality investigations and notifications thoroughly.

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 education
  • Minimum of 1 year construction experience.
  • Valid "DZ" Class driver's license in good standing and must be a competent dump truck driver.
  • Must score 3+ on the TOWES assessment.
  • Reside within the primary response residency limits (30 mins maximum response time to KOF).
  • Be physically fit and capable of performing manual labour.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to pass oral and or written examinations.
  • Capable of meeting performance standards to upgrade by successfully completing classroom and practical competency tests and required certifications and qualifications.
  • Able to obtain a Ministry of the Environment Level 2 Water Distribution Certification.
  • Must be willing and able to obtain a Gas Pipeline Inspector's certification after successfully attaining the 2nd class utility distribution technician job category.
  • Capable and willing to progress through the system leading eventually to Utility Distribution Technician.
  • Will be on call on a shared rotation for after hour's emergencies. 
  • Overtime is an expectation, as required.
  • Preference will be given to those holding a Ministry of the Environment Water Distribution Certification and/or a Gas Pipeline Inspectors certification.
  • Further preference will be given to candidates holding other post-Secondary related technical skills in either Gas or Water Distribution areas.
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record.

 

Candidates will be required to complete a driving skills assessment as well as the TOWES assessment.
