The International Tax Director has primary responsibility for the company's international tax planning, the international components of the ASC 740 accounting and the management of outsourced international tax compliance.  The Director, International Tax fulfills these responsibilities through individual contributions, management of third-party consultants, and collaboration with global BioMarin colleagues.  
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and review international components of the tax provision under ASC 740.  Verify that all international transactions are accounted for correctly in the quarterly and annual tax provision process. 
  • Management of international tax matters such as foreign tax credit utilization, GILTI, BEAT, FDII, Pillar Two and Subpart F. 
  • Manage the US international tax compliance filings (5471s, 8858s, 5713, etc.) and related matters. 
  • Manage the outsourced international tax compliance relationships. 
  • Support international expansion by identifying and resolving key tax issues around entity formation, funding, I/C transactions to support operations in the new jurisdictions. 
  • International tax strategy and planning, including the development and implementation of tax strategies, entity and transaction structures, and work with functional business areas to successfully implement new strategies. 
  • Work with Director, Transfer Pricing on internal transfer pricing- management of intercompany transactions and transfer pricing arrangements and compliance with documentation requirements in the various jurisdictions. 
  • Support the budget and forecast process, work with FP&A to make sure the international structures/operations are captured correctly.  
  • Support merger and acquisition and partner collaboration due diligence and deal structuring as needed, including technical research and collaboration with external advisors. 
  • Help develop and mentor the tax department staff on an ongoing basis.  
  • Assist with the coordination and resolution of all international audit issues raised by US and foreign tax authorities. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships globally with third party consultants and tax professionals, including engagement administration and fees. 
  • Customarily and regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of the duties described above. 
  • Work closely with corporate accounting and financial reporting to support statutory audits as needed.

  • Company total assets of over $6.8 billion; Annual revenues over $2 billion; deferred tax assets of over $1.5 billion.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration / accounting or finance
  • C.P.A. certificate, JD or MBA required
  • MST Preferred
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Alteryx
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation communication skills
  • Oracle EBS, SAP, OneSource, and Hyperion Finance experience a plus
 
Experience
  • 15 – 20 years of total tax experience with various aspects of taxation with increasing responsibilities over time
  • 5-10 years of public accounting experience, Big 4 preferred
  • 5-10 years of corporate domestic and international tax experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with specific duties listed in the “Responsibilities” section above.
