Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to more than 1 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a regular full-time Senior Sous Chef to join our Food & Beverage team. Under the direction of the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef, the incumbent will oversee and supervise production and service of all menus. The incumbent will also direct activities of kitchen staff and contribute to the development of special events menus as needed. It is key that the incumbent has strong communication skills as they will liaise with the kitchen management team to coordinate all aspects of kitchen management and activities.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Minimum of 5 years directly related experience in a comparable position at a high quality hospitality operation or directly related banquet cooking experience in a high quality, volume, hospitality operation.
• Directly related experience on a professional culinary team supervising and/or mentoring subordinate staff
• Extensive knowledge of food handling and advanced culinary techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of safety and sanitation standards in accordance with municipal health board.
• Demonstrated ability to handle knives and all kitchen equipment and to instruct safe handling to others.
• Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
• Communicates effectively and maintains productive relationships with all levels of the organization including internal/external contacts.
• Well-developed awareness of contemporary creative cuisine, gastronomy and food and wine pairing techniques.
• Awareness of current food trends, relevant competitors and customer expectations within a high-end hospitality operation.
• Familiarity with food and labour cost control systems.
• Thorough knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS), safety regulations and practices
• Cultivate and foster a positive and productive workplace culture
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team environment
• Demonstrated troubleshooting & problem solving skills
• Participates and contributes in cross-functional team activities/projects and puts team goals ahead of individual goals.
