Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to more than 1 million visitors annually. Focused on delivering content of exceptional quality and contemporary relevance, the AGO is deepening relationships with existing members and visitors, attracting new and diverse audiences, and strengthening its recognition on a global scale. At the AGO, our Food and Beverage team has the opportunity to get creative and build menus and culinary experiences that reflect our featured exhibitions and art pieces.

We are currently searching for an regular part-time Cook 2, Events who will be an integral part of the AGO Food and Beverage team. He/She/They will participate in organizing the prep, food service, and close of large scale food production. They will also participate in the food preparation, set up, service and break down of Special Event Menus.

The pay rate for this position is $18.64  - $23.65 per hour.

  • Regular part-time employees shall receive vacation pay four percent (4%) of total earnings for up to two (2) years of service & will increase to 6% after 2 years of service.
  • Regular part-time who complete two hundred (200) hours of work become eligible to accumulate sick days. Seven (7) hours sick credits for each two hundred (200) hours of work
  • 1 paid personal day, annually
  • Part Time – paid in lieu of benefits (7.5%) of total earnings.
  • Eligible for Pensionable earnings once you’ve worked with the gallery for two (2) consecutive years.
  • Rest period (paid) and Meal break (unpaid) as per Collective Agreement on scheduled shifts
  • The Gallery will provide restaurant employees with one (1) pair of black dress shoes every two (2) years

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
  • A few year’s experience at a high quality, volume, and hospitality or retail operation.
  • Understanding of contemporary creative cuisine.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling and advanced cooking techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle all kitchen equipment, and demonstrate safe handling to others
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food handling, safety and sanitation standards.
  • Teamwork, time management, and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of hospitality practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural difference, sensitivity, awareness and lived experience
