Position at Absolute Software

As Data Engineer, you will be a member of the Data Intelligence team at Absolute Software, responsible for building out and maintaining the data architecture subsuming the intelligence and data science function of the organization. Your colleagues are engineers, developers, and data scientists with backgrounds in computer science, statistics, and other related quantitative disciplines.

Working closely with engineering, data product, and business groups, your job is to build out scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to service the broader data intelligence team, as well as other stakeholders in the business who may benefit from a well-maintained, and well-organized data architecture toolset. We work to satisfy our internal stakeholders and our external customers. Your role will blend knowledge of big data pipelines, data architecture concepts, and modern computing practices to develop containerized services and automations in cloud environments. Absolute Software operates on a cross-functional team model, and you will interface closely with everyone from full stack engineers and statistical modelers to data intelligence and business analysts.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining a big data pipeline and cloud computing architecture and tool set
  • Harvesting, transforming, and staging large datasets for consumption by other data intelligence, data science, and product development resources
  • Integrating custom data solutions into more broadly automated production processes as necessary
  • Collaboration with data scientists to continually build and enhance the data science infrastructure and tool set
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline and superlative technical skills
  • 2-5 years of direct experience working on a team of Software Engineers, Data Engineers, and/or Data Scientists
  • Experience working with big data pipelines, large data sets, and cloud computing resources, such as AWS or Google Cloud
  • Strong Python, Scala, and/or Java programming experience
  • Experience writing and scaling data pipelines with Spark and/or pySpark
  • Experience developing and running containerized services
  • Experience using messaging queues and/or other components of message-oriented middleware
