Description

Workman Publishing is seeking a Manager of Operations to join its Creative Services department. This individual will manage the workflow and output of creative services projects, working collaboratively with APs, sales, marketing, production, inventory, and other stakeholders in the materials being created and used to support the sales and marketing of titles and brands from Workman, Artisan, Workman Kids, Workman Calendars, and Black Dog & Leventhal. You will also work very closely with the team of designers and copywriters to help create materials. This position will report to the Executive Director, Creative Services.
 
essential duties and responsibilities:
 
• Create the schedules and oversee the workflow of creative services projects and be responsible for managing deadlines
• Set up and run a weekly meeting to go over the group’s schedule
• Route jobs when ready to the appropriate clients (determined by the client who initiated the job and including anyone on creative side deemed necessary) and keep track of changes and approvals for all materials
• Be responsible for delivering all finished jobs, whether digital or print
• Create work orders for displays, and work closely with production/inventory/sales to track displays from inception through delivery, including reprinting when necessary
• Set up ISBNs for sales promotions
• Manage the creation of specialty marketing materials, from sourcing, pricing, placing orders to overseeing delivery of finished products
• Troubleshoot problems and delays
• Work together with executive director on evaluating design work, assigning jobs to individual designers, and keeping our team on track
 
knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
 
• Minimum three-to-five years publishing experience working in an administrative or associate role, ideally in creative services, sales, marketing, managing ed, or production
• Experience working with schedules and deadlines
• Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, along with an ability to work with a variety of different people across different parts of the company
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with publishing management systems and an ability to learn new systems if necessary
• Aptitude for thriving in a fast-paced environment and handling a large workflow of projects at one time
• An understanding of how the type of work creative services does can have a positive impact on sales, including a clear sense of what works and why
• Though not required, proofreading and copyediting skills a desirable plus
 
This is a NYC based role. Please note our current hybrid model is two days per week in the office. Effective in January 2025, HBG’s hybrid model will be 3 days in-office, 2 days working from home.

The compensation range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000. Salary can vary based on a number of factors including skills, experience, and location — talk with your recruiter to learn more. There may be times that you will be required (or requested) to work overtime due to the nature of your role or exceptional workload issues or special projects.
