Academic Department Director: Career Preparation, NY Campus

The AMDA NY Campus, is searching for an Academic Department Director (ADD): Career Preparation. The purpose of this position is to provide specialized support to faculty members teaching Career Preparation course work. The ADD will meet with faculty members in their department on a semesterly basis to provide opportunities for all instructors to share their ideas about their classes and the curriculum, as well as to discuss class observations and student feedback. These regular meetings will broaden our ability to collect and implement faculty ideas, support areas of opportunity, and champion outstanding teaching. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Faculty Supervision
  • Course Supervision: PFD101C; PFD201
  • Semesterly Faculty/Course Assignment
  • Addressing Student Concerns
  • Administration of policies and procedures
  • Support Faculty to Implement Canvas as Effective Teaching & Learning Tool Across Department
    • Ensure minimum standards for each Canvas course page is met across department
    • Support faculty in taking ownership of their Canvas course pages for Grading transparency, Course organization, &
      Student communications.
  • Develop and oversee Career Services Department
    • Develop relationships with Performing Arts entities that can offer employment to upper level students/alumni
    • Work with OIE about reporting about job placement of alumni
    • Support current students in identifying professional opportunities
    • Develop workshops to encourage employment in both the performing arts and professional opportunities in other areas
    • Identifying staff needs for the successful support of the department
  • Faculty/Staff Supervision, assessment, and communications
    • Day to day faculty/staff supervision and support
    • Implement faculty/staff assessment framework
    • Survey data reviews with faculty
  • Faculty Evaluation
    • Support yearly (summer) faculty performance evaluation in collaboration with VP of Academic Affairs
    • Conduct semesterly faculty performance evaluations with Direct Observation, Canvas LMS Course Page Reviews, & Student Course Surveys, conducted at mid-point and end of each semester
  • Faculty/Staff training implementation 
    • Faculty tied to evaluation feedback
  • Participate in processes that systematically collect faculty input into curricular development and continuous improvement
    • Participate in regular division meetings (1-2 per semester)
    • Participate in regular ADD meetings (2-3 per semester)
    • Lead regular departmental faculty meetings (2-3 per semester)‚Äč

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Advanced skills in LMS (Canvas)
  • 4-6 years industry professional experience required
  • 2-4 years academic administration experience required
  • Management background a plus
  • Industry network a plus
  • Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace experience required
