The High School Conservatory at AMDA offers a variety of programs to dedicated and determined high school students who are serious about a career in the performing arts. Our programs are truly global, welcoming students from all 50 states and over 30 different countries each year. 
 
AMDA is currently seeking organized and enthusiastic individuals to work closely with our students on a nightly basis. It is the responsibility of program Night Counselors to create and maintain a safe environment for all students in a 24/7 residential education context. This is an exciting opportunity to spend the summer living on campus in the heart of New York City, working with passionate young artists from all over the world, and supporting their learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The ideal candidates are detail oriented, with a passion for student well-being. 
 
Primary Responsibilities: 
 
  • Oversee dormitory safety during night hours for high school students in the summer conservatory. 
  • Conduct regular patrols, ensuring compliance with curfew and program rules. 
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, and student concerns, following intervention procedures. 
  • Collaborate with staff, communicate relevant information, and maintain accurate records. 
  • Enforce security measures and monitor access points to safeguard the facility. 
  • Provide support to students experiencing challenges and foster a positive atmosphere. 
  • Ensure a seamless transition of information between night and daytime staff. 
  • Stay informed through training sessions and meetings on safety protocols and program updates. 
  • Mentor students, promoting a culture of respect, responsibility, and accountability. 
 
Qualifications: 
 
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably as a night counselor or in a residential setting. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Demonstrated ability to handle emergencies and make sound decisions under pressure. 
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and basic first aid. 
  • Excellent observation skills to monitor and address student behavior and well-being. 
  • Ability to enforce rules and maintain a secure environment while promoting a positive atmosphere. 
  • Flexibility to work night hours and adapt to changing situations. 
  • Understanding of the unique challenges and needs of high school students in a residential summer conservatory program. 
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting students experiencing homesickness, stress, or other challenges. 
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and professionalism in fulfilling duties. 
  • Relevant education or training in counseling, social work, education, or a related field is a plus. 
  • CPR and First Aid Certification are a plus. 
  • Available to live on campus (counselors live in the same dorm building as summer students) from mid-June to August. 
  • Must be 18 years of age and must have or be actively working towards or has received a college degree.
