The Technical Manager is a recognized leader in one or more technical areas.  He/she assists in the development and implementation of the organization unit quality assurance/quality control program and the critical review of organization unit proposal and project work for those programs under his/her technical field.  He/she serves as a technical lead on assigned projects, providing leadership and guidance to organization unit and other professional staff on technical matters.  He/she is also responsible for improving the organization unit's technical product.  Lead technical cooperative efforts externally through technical and professional societies or associations, and internally.

Expected Outcomes
  • Assist in the attainment of organization unit goals/objectives by alerting management to trends and new developments that are of importance to the company's present and future strategic plan.  Assist in the development and support of new technical market areas for WESTON.
  • Assist in maintaining the technical competence, and training of organization unit professional staff.
  • Provide technical expertise to support the career planning, professional development, and professional activity of the organization unit professional staff.  Provide technical guidance to assigned organization unit professional staff.  Serves as technical and professional mentor to assigned organization unit professional staff.
  • Achieve personal utilization goals.
  • Protect WESTON from liability claims by ensuring appropriate key personnel assignments and critical review of product.
  • Serve as a technical lead on assigned project work to assure technical completeness, accuracy and ingenuity and supports the Technical Director as appropriate.  Where additional expertise is required, identify and secure needed capability.
  • Lead and participates in assigned inter-divisional/regional proposal and project writing efforts.  Coordinate, lead and participate in assigned Project Director/Project Manager requests for proposal preparation.  Responsible for the technical quality of organization unit proposal and project work.
  • Maintain a close working relationship and cooperative effort with other technical staff in WESTON and participate in supporting the corporate technical team building effort.  Represents organization unit professional staff in technical opinion differences with Project Managers/Project Directors.  Direct activities to minimize disputes.
  • Author (or co-author) two or more technical papers per year for publication.  Support the efforts of other staff to prepare technical papers.  Contribute to technical presentations.
  • Identify, develop and apply new technology in assigned areas.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelors degree in discipline, plus minimum 8 to 10 years related experience.
  • Must be able to demonstrate progressive increase in accountability.
  • Registration/certification if required by law or by professional standards for practice of profession.
