Position Summary

The Director, Health Services Research is a hands-­on leadership and implementation role reporting to the Chief Medical Officer. The Director is responsible for establishing program level leadership for our Acute Care Successful Aging (SA) pillars and the development and execution of applied research activities and healthcare collaborations for the Institute. This is an opportunity to create and scale novel models of care that can improve the lives of older adults at a widespread, systems level.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and research skills, an intimate familiarity with the evolving medical and non-medical needs of seniors as well as the opportunities and challenges extent in the current changing healthcare landscape. Candidate should also have a record of accomplishment of effectively forging stakeholder alignment to drive the process of unmet need identification, meaningful innovation, clinical validation, and dissemination.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Develop a robust research capability and lead the development of a research portfolio and quality improvement activities
  • Ensure current project focus and accountability is maintained as portfolio expands.
  • Support leadership team in identifying and evaluating High Fit/Attractive Opportunities, and ensure synergies across portfolio are identified and leveraged.
  • Align and integrate Policy Center team with active and proposed research collaborations and pilots.
  • Leverage program leadership teams to find new ways of working together; deliver “quick win” efficiencies and an enhanced future state of our portfolio.
  • Deliver thoughtful, consistent approach throughout implementation and maximize learnings across collaborations.
  • Mentor and support the Institute staff to grow their capabilities and develop a culture of accountability, excellence, and professionalism.
  • Research, analyze, and translate unmet clinical needs in support of the Institute’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Help shape and contribute to the Institute’s research and innovation process, including playing a key leadership role and bringing subject matter expertise (eg. clinical informatics) to our Data Science efforts.
  • Demonstrate collegial, collaborative, and diplomatic interpersonal style with ability to implement inclusive approaches to foster consensus and engagement across diverse stakeholders and constituents.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to a multi-­disciplinary stakeholder group
  • Drive publication of results in peer­ reviewed journals, and more importantly, drive adoption of impactful solutions by a diverse set of healthcare industry stakeholder

Qualifications and Experience

  • MD or Ph.D in relevant field, preferred(eg. clinical research, health services research, clinical epidemiology, implementation science, health policy and management, health economics, outcomes research, community health sciences, community-based care, aging).
  • 3+ years of experience managing professional staff, projects, and collaborative relationships
  • Strong desire to make a positive difference in the affordability of and access to healthcare and non-medical supports for seniors.
  • Must possess strong analytic and technical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, time management, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, ability to build research and other strategic partnerships and to establish rapport and credibility at all levels.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with diverse organizations, agencies, and persons.
  • Knowledge of research operations management, including budgeting, project management, broad knowledge of management principles and techniques.
  • Highly self-­motivated individuals with high energy, positive and professional approach, and attention to detail.
  • Must be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19
  • Must believe in public health and science.
