POSITION SUMMARY
West Health Institute (WHI) is recruiting a Senior Research Manager. The Senior Research Manager is a hands-on leadership role reporting to the Senior Director, Clinical Research, and is responsible for the development and execution of clinical and quality improvement research activities for the Institute. The successful candidate will apply research expertise and behavioral health expertise in the development and execution of research proposals, and protocols, leading a cross functional research, clinical, and implementation team to ensure programs of work are executed on time and within budget. Key requirements of the position include expertise in the behavioral health field (with particular emphasis on specific conditions [depression, anxiety, and substance use disorder] and care models [integrated behavioral health, and Collaborative Care]). Additional requirements are knowledge of clinical operations management, quality improvement methodologies, and change management techniques. The Senior Research Manager will write and develop manuscripts, operational tools, whitepapers, conference presentations, and engage with stakeholders to catalyze adoption, scale, and sustainability of behavioral health care that advances our successful aging mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop, document, and execute interdisciplinary quality improvement and research project plans that test/validate candidate solutions in the behavioral health space using best practices and scientifically validated methodologies.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate the goals, priorities, and strategies of current and future (proposed) projects.
  • Provide leadership for project teams both internally and externally to ensure that change is successfully managed using best practices, and a validated framework for change implementation.
  • Create and implement best practices that provide solutions to obstacles that hinder change and the successful adoption of new policies, practices, and supportive technologies.
  • Assist partner organizations with developing best practices by providing coaching and guidance on how to best achieve results and how to leverage their internal leadership and stakeholders to achieve results.
  • Drive publication of results in peer reviewed journals, and more importantly, drive adoption of impactful solutions by a diverse set of healthcare industry stakeholders.
GENERAL
  • Remain informed and current on issues related to behavioral healthcare (for all populations with an emphasis on older adults), including best practices, trends, technology applications, research studies, changes in public policy, and overall lessons learned.
  • Identify and articulate critical assumptions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Conduct research and analysis to gain insights into expectations, needs, motivation, and best practices of key stakeholders.
  • Maintain the highest standards of professional integrity and confidentiality.
  • Under tight deadlines, create professional written products for a variety of audiences that are clear, succinct, and audience appropriate.
  • Create professional presentations to communicate complex problems and solutions.
  • Work collaboratively or independently on other initiatives or special projects as assigned by the West Health Institute Senior Director and/or Chief Medical Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Master’s degree in behavioral health field (PhD preferred).
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • 5+ years in the behavioral health field (outpatient clinic experience preferred).
  • 5+ years of implementation and change management experience. Proof of change management/leadership training, experience, or certification a plus.
  • Experience managing professional staff, projects, and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of research operations management and research design and best practices.
  • Experience in the design and delivery of quality improvement initiatives, theories of change, and implementation science.
  • Experience presenting to senior healthcare leaders and other executive level stakeholders.
  • Ability to write professionally on short deadlines.
  • Experience/expertise in geriatrics preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%.
  • Must live in San Diego, CA.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The estimated compensation range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000
