Salary Range: $133,848 - $180,731.20

Position Summary

The Infection Preventionist plans, coordinates, and evaluates hospital-wide integrated programs relating to the control and prevention of infection. These programs are responsive to the needs of patients and employees and meet the requirements of TJC, CMS, Title XXII, OSHA, and all other regulatory organizations.

The Infection Preventionist maintains and enhances a cooperative relationship with members of the Medical Staff, consistent with the hospital's desire to respect the wishes of the individual physicians, while at the same time enforcing the hospital's obligation to support the authority and integrity of the Clinical Evaluation Committee in matters pertaining to the identification and control of infectious diseases.

The Infection Preventionist collaborates with Quality and Risk Management Department, Case Management, and Employee Health and Services and Safety to maintain and promote quality care in a safe environment. 
In addition to performing the essential functions listed below, may also be assigned other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

  • Graduation from an accredited college of university with a Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree in Nursing (BSN) OR
  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or closely related field.
  • If applicable, active California Registered Nurse (RN) License.
  • BLS required or to be obtained upon hire.
  • 1-3 year or more years of infection prevention experience, including, or supplemented by:

           EITHER

(A) Six (6) or more months of professional experience in infection prevention and control in an acute care hospital or health related field, such as direct patient care, clinical or laboratory research, epidemiology, or infectious disease
           OR
(B) Certified-in-Infection Control (CIC) by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) preferred.
