This role is based in the Herzliya office in Israel.

What You’ll Do:
Data is at the heart of Varonis’ product, and our team owns the services and data stores that ingest, enrich, model, store, and query massive volumes of security‑critical data. We tackle challenges in high‑throughput, low‑latency processing, complex data modeling, large‑scale pipelines, and performance‑optimized querying. This is an end‑to‑end role that blends backend and data engineering with high technical ownership.
We are now redesigning major parts of our data backend to support rapid growth. This includes evaluating new technologies, running benchmarks, and solving some of the hardest distributed‑systems and performance problems in the company. You’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of our data platform - a high‑impact position with direct influence on the business.
As a Backend Engineer on the team, you will help build the large‑scale, distributed, big‑data systems that power Varonis’ security product.
You will:
- Design, implement, and test backend services that process massive data volumes with high throughput and reliability.
- Build and maintain distributed, scalable, fault‑tolerant systems.
- Work hands‑on with big‑data and streaming technologies.
- Collaborate closely with fellow development teams and Product Managers to translate business needs into performant, scalable architectures.
- Perform design and code reviews to raise quality and maintain engineering standards.
- Continuously optimize system performance, reliability, and observability.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related degree.
- 5+ years of hands‑on backend engineering experience.
- Strong programming skills (Java / C# -are an advantage).
- Experience in distributed systems and/or large‑scale data processing.
- Solid foundation in backend engineering, including:
- Databases (SQL/NoSQL)
- Caching
- Kubernetes and docker
- Cloud environments (Azure - advantage)
- Azure Data Explorer database experience - advantage
- Experience using AI‑assisted coding tools effectively.
- A strong sense of ownership, attention to quality, and a collaborative, problem‑solving mindset.
