Job Title:  Trade Compliance Specialist

Position Overview:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Trade Compliance Specialist to ensure that our import and export activities full comply with Canadian trade regulations.  This role will focus on optimizing duty savings, managing customer-related risks, and driving continuous improvement in trade compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities:
HS Management:
  • Maintain accuracy and consistency of HS classifications for all Canadian imports and exports.
  • Conduct pre-export and post-importation checks to ensure compliance with CBSA requirements.
  • Coordinate with custom brokers, supply chain, and production teams to resolve information requests.
  • Prepare and submit ruling requests for complex items to CBSA.
FTA Management:
  • Review import declaration data weekly to confirm eligibility for Canadian preference programs (i.e. CPTPP, LDC).
  • Validate Certificates of Origin prior to import declarations to minimize refund claims.
  • Oversee the refund process for air shipments and delayed Certificates of Origin.
Revenue Management:
  • Collaborate with Finance to monitor notifications from CARM portal.
  • Support bond renewal processes and ensure sufficiency levels per CBSA requirements.
  • Perform weekly reconciliations of FOB values versus declared values and investigate discrepancies.
  • Facilitate refund applications and recovery of overpaid duties.
  • Periodically review additions and deductions to transaction values for compliance with Canadian customs valuation rules.
Broker Management & Compliance Reporting:
  • Respond to daily broker inquiries to ensure smooth import operations.
  • Prepare and submit monthly compliance reports to the CFO, providing visibility and accountability for all trade compliance.
What You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in International Trade, Supply Chain, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in Customs Compliance within a Canadian context.
  • Strong knowledge of HS classification, customs valuation, and CBSA regulations.
  • Familiarity with Canadian preference programs (CPTPP, LDC) and preferential rules of origin.
  • Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Copilot (Office 365) for workflow automation and document drafting is a plus.
  • CCS designation (preferred but not required).
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Annual Salary: $112,000 CAD.
 
The annual salary is based on several factors, including, but not limited to, overall experience, relevant experience, education level, certifications, applicable skills and expertise, and location of the position.
