Total Wine & More is seeking a Lead Business Intelligence Engineer with expertise in all aspects of business intelligence, data warehousing, and analytics to join our Data Services team in Bethesda, MD or Boca Raton, FL. We are embarking on a significant initiative to transform all aspects of data lifecycle management services within Total Wine & More including enterprise data architecture, business intelligence, and data warehousing – leveraging the cloud to create a foundation for advanced analytics and data quality management capabilities longer term. You will be passionate about data and turning data into actionable insights to help execute our vision for data services at Total Wine & More.
You will leverage your BI knowledge and skills to drive business value across all departments and guide the organization to a more data-driven culture. You will work closely with the business, technology and infrastructure teams, and security staff and will enjoy learning and problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
You will report to the Director of Business Intelligence and Data Analysis in Bethesda, MD.
You will:
- Collaborate with BI Director to develop and execute BI vision for the organization in support of growth and strategic decisions.
- Establish and cultivate BI governance standards and best practices – formulating a plan for outreach within the organization.
- Take ownership of current BI technologies and lead execution of BI optimization & re-architecture initiatives in support of vision
- Stay informed of new BI technologies and features to guide the optimization & continuous advancement of BI capabilities.
- Assist with implementation of data architecture, data analytics, and broader data management standards.
- Work with stakeholders to understand business needs and develop data solutions that drive results.
- Collaborate with other BI engineers to design, develop, and deploy data & reporting solutions using BI technologies.
- Be proactive and take ownership of the projects and tasks assigned.
- Mentor and guide more junior team members to become trusted BI resources for the organization.
You will have:
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in Computer Science, Technology, Business, or related field.
- 6+ years of experience in business intelligence, data warehousing or related fields
- Proven track record in building impactful reporting and data modeling solutions using cloud native tools.
- Experienced with cloud-based business intelligence technologies.
- Strong proficiency in SQL for data analysis and data modeling
- Understanding of data warehouse engineering & architecture technology landscape, processes, and design principles
- Knowledgeable about BI governance strategies and best practices
- Passionate about data, data analytics, and data warehousing
- Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve along with the ability to make recommendations based on analysis are extremely important.
- Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
- Must be self-managed, highly motivated and have a strong drive for results.
- Must be naturally able to exert influence, drive, and steer stakeholders in the right direction.
- Proven, demonstrated capability in gathering and documenting complex business and functional requirements.
- Ability to grasp concepts quickly and reduce them to practice with little supervision.
- Ability to manage changing priorities and plan effectively to meet deadlines.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and to derive workable actions.
- Ability to constructively challenge requirements and current state to increase overall value to the organization.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Experience with cloud-based analytical platforms (GCP, Azure)
- Experience with enterprise Business Intelligence technologies (Power BI, Looker)
- Experience with workflow management (Airflow) and data warehouse tools (dbt)
- Knowledge of data lifecycle management (DLM)
- Familiar with retail operations
