Total Wine & More is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to join our growing Data Services team in our Bethesda, MD office. We are looking for a Principal Data Scientist, interested in driving projects from conception to deployment, making a tangible impact on the organization while growing the next generation of data scientists at TWM by sharing your expertise and inspiring their growth. You will work with the latest data science tools and techniques to deliver business value through impacting consumer behavior. You will need to partner with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions to high priority initiatives. You will report to the Director of Data Science and Analytics. 
 
You will 
  • Oversee data science projects from inception to completion, ensuring successful delivery.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, fostering a collaborative and productive environment
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of data science techniques, programming languages, and machine learning framework
  • Develop a deep understanding of the business context and industry trend
  • Understand the business context and apply data science to solve real-world problems
  • Effectively communicate project progress, outcomes, and insights to stakeholders
  • Champion best practices in ML/AI domain across Total Wine & More. Communicate effectively with stakeholders of various tech skillsets about project implementation, results and evolutions of project
You will come with 
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field. Master’s or PhD preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in data science, predictive analytics, econometrics or related fields
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or related fields.
  • Understanding customer analytics
  • Proven track record in building impactful solutions using predictive & prescriptive modeling
  • Experience in the use of machine learning, econometrics, predictive modeling
  • Experience in leveraging the cloud in the application of advanced analytics
  • Experienced with general programing, statistical languages, and deep learning packages used to manipulate data and build statistical and machine learning models at a large scale, such as Python, PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, SQL, and SQL-like query languages for NoSQL databases
  • Understanding of data science-related technology landscape, processes and design principles
  • Familiarity with data architecture, data engineering, data management, and data analysis tools and techniques
  • Passionate about data, data science, and insight generation
  • Familiar with retail, wholesale, planning and allocation systems, or supply chain operations, preferred
  • Strong analytic skills, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, troubleshoot and problem solve along with the ability to make recommendations based on analysis are extremely important
  • Must possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Must be self-managed, highly motivated and have a strong drive for results
  • Must be naturally able to exert influence, drive and steer stakeholders in the right direction

The exempt compensation range for this position is $146,600 - $197,700. Compensation may vary based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, market location, job-related knowledge, skills and/or experience. Total Wine & More considers several factors when establishing compensation.
