Director of Website Experience & Digital Strategy

Suffolk University and its Division of Communications seek an enterprising and collaborative leader to drive the University’s web and digital marketing strategies as Director of Website Experience & Digital Strategy.
The Director will proactively lead the University’s efforts to ensure its website is current, dynamic, easy to navigate and optimized for the journey of multiple audiences, including prospective and current students, alumni, faculty, staff and others. This position will be part of the Communications Division’s Marketing department and its Web team and will lead initiatives to drive digital improvements at both a strategic and tactical level. The Director will partner closely with a range of stakeholders across the University, including with Suffolk’s Enrollment and Advancement divisions, its three schools, its academic and other units to maximize the impact of web pages and ensure that they engage, inform, and convert visitors into students, engaged alumni, donors and brand ambassadors.
The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of website performance metrics and the ability to use data to develop actions that improve results. This individual will oversee and assist in the creation and structure of new and existing web pages and ensure content is optimized for discovery by search engines and users. They will lead a small team of content editors, and partner with marketing writers, content creators, and the Communications Division’s leadership to ensure a consistent, purposeful, and high-caliber digital experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working with deans, programs, and academic units to ensure that web pages across the University’s site are fresh, engaging, dynamic, consistent, and effective in achieving required goals; proactively leading efforts to optimize content and identify areas ripe for improvement.
- Guides architecture decisions with key stakeholders to determine optimal website experience
- Responsible for creating, reviewing, editing, and enhancing content on the web
- Leverages data and analytics to ensure content is optimized for university audiences, search engines, and accessibility.
- Regular communication with the Communications Division’s leadership to discuss direction, strategy, and priority
- Providing web-related analytics to marketing team leaders to assist them in making informed decisions related to digital marketing campaigns. Establishing clear, regular metrics for success and dashboards
- Managing website optimization efforts including conversion rate optimization (CRO) and analytics to improve discoverability (SEO), user experience, and conversion
- Creating a data reporting structure to enable performance dashboards that can be shared with key university leadership
- Familiarity with best practices as they relate to mobile optimization, website responsiveness, and accessibility
- Collaborating closely with marketing and communications teams and content creators to ensure that the website aligns with brand strategy, dynamically shares our story, and meets University standards
Requirements/Qualifications:
- 7+ years of working experience as a website/digital marketer; higher education marketing experience is a plus
- Understanding of web writing principles, content management, page presentation, and information architecture
- Demonstrated ability to write, edit, proofread, and format copy for the web
- Demonstrated knowledge managing, organizing, and auditing website content for optimal display on desktop/mobile
- Knowledge of relevant website accessibility standards
- Experience in leading a comprehensive website redesign a plus
- Expert knowledge of digital marketing tactics including SEO, A/B testing, CRO, and data modeling
- Expert proficiency with Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and other web analytics and tracking platforms
- Ability to use data to influence decision making and to communicate complex information so that it is easily understood by non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with usability testing for websites and working knowledge of ADA-web compliance guidelines
- Experience working with CMS (Sitecore preferred), CRM, and marketing automation platforms
- Extensive knowledge of marketing principles and strategies
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills are required
- Demonstrated success working cross-functionally and leading through influence
- Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills a must
- Strong UX design sensibility
