JOB PURPOSE:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Aircraft Avionics Component Service Shop Technician (SCA) to join our Avionics Component Shop in Toronto (YYZ). The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, testing, servicing, overhaul, and certification of a wide range of aircraft avionics components in accordance with approved data, company procedures, and Transport Canada regulations.
This role is well suited for individuals with electronic or electrical backgrounds who possess a solid understanding of electrical and electronic theory.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect, service, troubleshoot, overhaul, and certify avionics components in accordance with approved maintenance data, company manuals, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform maintenance and certification of aircraft avionics components within assigned responsibilities.
- Accurately complete work orders, maintenance releases, inspection records, and technical documentation.
- Ensure all work is performed within the scope of SCA authority and in compliance with Transport Canada regulations and company approvals.
- Support internal and external customers by providing technical expertise and ensuring timely turnaround of component servicing.
- Maintain calibration awareness and ensure the proper use of shop test equipment and tooling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with Safety Management System (SMS) requirements.
- Participate in training, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Eligibility to obtain a Transport Canada Shop Certification Authority (SCA). Eligibility for authorization is demonstrated on the job.
- Strong understanding of electrical and electronic safety practices.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and electronic drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Ability to safely work around bare and live conductors in a battery servicing environment.
- Ability to safely lift and handle components weighing up to 110 lbs onto and off of work benches and shop carts.
- Ability to properly handle and dispose of waste related to aircraft battery maintenance.
- Strong working knowledge of approved maintenance data, regulatory requirements, and quality documentation standards.
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills in electrical and electronic components.
- Ability to work independently with a high level of attention to detail and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with maintenance documentation systems and standard office software.
- Strong communication skills and a professional approach when working with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Assets
- Previous experience in a Transport Canada‑approved avionics component shop.
- Previous experience in an electronic or electrical repair environment.
- Strong understanding of the importance of customer service excellence.
- Familiarity with battery shop processes, including capacity testing, charging, shelf‑life control, waste handling/disposal, and safe work procedures.
- Bilingual (English and French) considered an asset.
