Starting rate: $14 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position provides physical labor toward the maintenance of the power shop area or towards the production of daily yard operations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Experience and ability to use common hand and power tools such as pressure washers, screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, and hammers.
  • Basic English communication skills (verbal/written).
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to obtain internal forklift certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

Preferred

  • One (1) year of experience operating a forklift at OSHA standards.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary

  • Pressures wash and clean all the heavy equipment and vehicles within Seaboard’s fleet.
  • Pressures wash work areas as needed including spills.
  • Maintains awareness of all surroundings (i.e., trucks, people, etc.) at all times.
  • Maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards and maintain an awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, equipment, etc.) at all times.

Secondary

  • Serves as back up to the crane Laborer.
  • Performs general maintenance work of the Power Shop area inside and outside.
  • Operates a forklift to empty yard garbage bins.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Subjection to physical and/or DOT Screening may be required along with other tests as applicable.
  • The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, reach forward and grasp.
  • The employee is frequently required to bend forward, twist, reach overhead and exercise eye-hand coordination.
  • The employee is frequently required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, squat, pinch, exercise repetitive foot and wrist motion, finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • The employee must frequently lift, carry, push and pull up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Report safety hazards.
  • Immediately report incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Refuse any unsafe task or operation.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training.
  • Be constantly aware of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Reports directly to the Power Mechanic Foreman and indirectly to the Power Mechanic Manager.  Does not exercise supervision over any position.

 

CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system.
