POSITION SUMMARY:                

This position is responsible for performing a variety of Human Resources functions with an emphasis on benefits. This position also assists with performance management and employee relations. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required 

  • One (1) year of current work experience working in a Human Resources Department or a minimum of one (1) year of current work experience in an administrative role with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field such as Organizational Psychology.
  • Working knowledge of employment laws, guidelines, and other applicable local, State, and Federal laws with the ability to apply this knowledge to employee relations decisions.
  • Ability to successfully prepare employee documentation, to include disciplinary actions and performance appraisals, within the first three months of employment upon completion of on-the-job training. 
  • Demonstrated ability to foster positive employee engagement and partner with management to drive HR and Business initiatives. 
  • Intermediate skills in programs such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook. (Able to learn and work with IF statements, VLOOKUP’s, conditional formatting, and pivot tables).
  • Intermediate to advanced written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish to communicate at different levels throughout the organization and with exterior organizations, candidates, etc.
  • Possess organizational and time management skills with ability to prioritize and be detail oriented. 
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, multitask and possess strong initiative. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees. 
  • Ability to think logically, establish and follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions. 
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment within established systems and procedures. 
  • Ability to work extended hours, holidays, and/or weekends as needed. 
  • Must be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment. 

Preferred

  • Prior experience responding to employee benefits inquiries.
  • Prior experience in drafting and reviewing performance appraisals.
  • Possess active HR Certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM- SCP). 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary 

  • Assists employees with health and wellness benefits program which includes health, dental, vision,  FMLA, short and long term disability, 401k plan, among others. 
  • Assists with the Leave of Absence and Workers Compensation program administration.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts employee-relations activities and programs, including but not limited to interpretation of policies, new employee orientation, employee engagement, and employee recognition programs and events.
  • Conducts stay and exit interviews, communicates findings to management.
  • Assists with the performance appraisal process: orientation and year-end performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates and conducts training sessions to meet compliance requirements.
  • Audits and maintains bulletin boards for compliance and other HR postings.
  • Stays abreast of changes in applicable employment laws.

Secondary

  • Perform other related duties, special projects, and HR initiatives as assigned in support of departmental and organizational objectives. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear. 
  • The employee is interchangeably required to sit, stand, and walk. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. 
  • Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. 

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from the Human Resources Assistant Manager and indirectly reports to the Human Resources Director. Does not exercise supervision over any other position but may request assistance from the department’s administrative staff.

CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily in a temperature-controlled office environment with moderate noise levels due to routine phone and in-person interactions. The role also requires periodic work outdoors while visiting terminal operations, involving exposure to varying weather conditions such as heat, rain, wind, dust, and industrial fumes.
