POSITION SUMMARY:
This position operates the fuel truck for equipment maintenance and service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience performing fuel servicing operations (refuel/defuel services) using mobile fuel servicing truck and hose sets, or a Class A CDL license with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements and 1 year of tractor/trailer driving experience.
- Must be able to successfully complete on-the-job training to drive other heavy equipment such as 30K/52K Forklift, Mule, and Toploader/Empty Handler within the first year of employment.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Ability to communicate (read, write and speak) in basic English.
- Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, as needed.
- Ability to work with limited supervision and strong initiative.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to deal effectively, establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors and fellow employees.
- Ability to think logically and follow procedures and instructions.
- Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary:
- Operates the fuel truck throughout the terminal, servicing fuel tanks of gensets (generator systems), power packs, reefer trailers, top loaders, and all other equipment.
- Logs daily fuel consumption using a handheld device.
- Performs pre-trip inspections of gensets.
- Must maintain a clean work area, free of debris or safety hazards, cleaning small fuel and oil spills when necessary.
- Reports large fuel and oil spills to their supervisor for proper management.
Secondary:
- Operates the mule, forklifts, and toploader as needed.
- Maintain awareness of all surroundings (i.e., trucks, people, etc.) at all times
- Additional duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Subjection to physical and/or DOT Screening may be required along with other tests as applicable.
- The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, and grasp.
- The employee is frequently required to bend (forward), reach (forward), use repetitive wrist motion and eye hand coordination
- The employee is occasionally required to sit, lift, carry, push/pull, climb, squat, kneel, twist (while driving), reach (overhead), pinch, use repetitive foot motion, finger dexterity and eye-hand-foot coordination.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- The employee must occasionally use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Report safety hazards.
- Immediately reports incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
- Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by the supervisor.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
- Refuse any unsafe tasks or operation.
- Participate in safety meetings and training.
- Awareness of their personal safety and that of their coworkers.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Reports directly to the Reefer Department Foreman and Manager; may assist other Operators in the performance of their functions. Does not exercise supervision over any position.
CONDITIONS:
- Exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity during day and night shifts.
- The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
- The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Moderate to high noise volume.
- Moderate vibration while driving fuel truck over rough or uneven surfaces.
