We are seeking a highly experienced and execution-minded Regional Director of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to lead and build a robust regional SRE organization. This role will be instrumental in aligning the local SRE teams with global SRE strategies while fostering collaboration across regions and with local development teams. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in SRE leadership or software development management, with a proven track record in managing managers, building high-performing teams, and driving initiatives that support operational excellence and scalability.
As the Regional SRE Director, you will be responsible for ensuring a framework of availability, scalability, and reliability of our services. You will also play a critical role in collaborating with local development teams, who act as service owners in their respective regions, to drive improvements in service performance and ensure alignment with global SRE goals like Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
Here’s how you’ll be making an impact:
Leadership & Organization Building:
- Lead the development and scaling of the regional SRE organization in your region, focusing on building a strong team structure that supports growth and operational effectiveness.
- Act as a manager of managers, guiding and mentoring SRE managers and team leads to enhance team capabilities.
- Establish and maintain a culture of ownership, continuous learning, and improvement, aligned with global SRE principles.
Strategic Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Regional SRE Directors in other regions to drive consistency in reliability practices, share knowledge, and pool resourcing when needed.
- Partner with local development teams, who are service owners within the region, to ensure that reliability, scalability, and performance goals are met.
- Foster collaboration between teams to streamline processes, promote global alignment, and ensure the seamless operation of services worldwide.
- Ensure effective communication and alignment between engineering, product, and operations teams.
Project Management & Planning:
- Lead cross-functional projects aimed at improving the reliability and performance of our systems, managing timelines, and balancing the need for immediate resolution with long-term improvements.
- Oversee resource planning, budget management, and ensure the team is aligned with the broader SRE and business objectives.
- Implement and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for system health, reliability, and team efficiency.
Livesite Champion:
- Be the champion for live site reliability, ensuring that services are available, performant, and resilient across your region.
- Work closely with local development teams to drive improvements, promote a culture of shared ownership, and ensure that incident response, post-mortem analysis, and automation are top priorities.
- Champion automation and scalability efforts to reduce manual work, minimize human error, and enhance system reliability.
- Promote sustainable on-call practices and ensure regional teams are equipped to provide 24x7 support without compromising quality of life.
We’re looking for a teammate with:
Experience:
- 10+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, Software Development, or a similar role.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing managers or leading large, multi-team organizations.
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling SRE or engineering teams in a complex, distributed environment.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with experience fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance culture.
- Excellent project management and planning skills, with the ability to oversee large-scale initiatives from conception to completion.
- Proven track record of working across multiple regions or departments to achieve aligned objectives.
Technical Competency:
- Deep understanding of reliability, performance, and scalability challenges in large-scale systems.
- Experience with automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, cloud services, and modern infrastructure.
- Solid knowledge of best practices in incident response, system monitoring, and operational tooling.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working with teams across North America, EMEA, and APAC regions, and collaborating with local development teams who own the services to drive results.
- Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and foster collaboration between geographically distributed teams.
