JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provides critical care clinical services, consultation, rounding and follow-up of patients in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU) specifically, but not limited to: Cardiothoracic Surgery, Electrophysiology, Structural Heart Disease, Advanced Heart Failure, Vascular, and Coronary Programs at The Queen’s Medical Center (QMC).
  • Fosters teamwork and communication among all internal and external constituencies.


CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provides in-house services as scheduled by the Medical Director or designee.
  • Serves as the attending physician for patients in the CICU.
  • Works collaboratively with consultants and coordinates overall care with the multidisciplinary CICU Team.
  • Evaluates patients throughout the health system for admission/transfer into the CICU, often in conjunction with Cardiology and/or Cardiothoracic Surgery consultants.
  • Facilitates transfers into the CICU from other facilities, often in conjunction with Cardiology and/or Cardiothoracic Surgery consultants.
  • Supervises and assists students, residents and fellows in the evaluation and management of CICU patients.
  • Participates in the education of nursing staff and other allied health care professionals in CICU.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certification in one (1) of the following by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA.  If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position:
    • Cardiovascular Diseases with successful completion of a Level III training in critical care cardiology as defined by the American College of Cardiology Core Cardiovascular Training Statement (COCATS 4)
    • Critical Care Medicine
    • Surgical Critical Care
    • Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Eligible for appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.
  • Experience working in a Cardiovascular ICU preferred.


Base salary begins at $390,406/year  with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
