JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:   
The OB/GYN Staff Physician is responsible for the delivery of high-quality, effective medical and surgical care to obstetrical and gynecologic female patients of NHCH. This Provider concentrates on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health problems, focusing on ailments specific to the female anatomy, such as breast and cervical cancer, urinary tract and pelvic disorders, and hormonal disorders. They will embrace a collaborative practice model with Family Practice Obstetricians and certified nurse midwives and will perform assigned duties while displaying the highest standards of ethical and moral conduct as well as acting in the best interest of NHCH, supporting our mission, vision, and values to optimize the health status of our patients.

CLINICAL Responsibilities   
  • Provides medical and surgical care related to pregnancy and the female reproductive system.
  • Performs gynecologic surgical procedures, routine and emergent.
  • Specializes in child birth, treating and counseling women throughout their pregnancy, from prenatal diagnosis to delivery and postpartum care.
  • Examines patients, obtains medical histories, screens for breast, cervix and ovarian cancers.
  • Embraces normal, physiologic processes while providing respectful care.
  • Monitors the mother and fetus during pregnancy.
  • Detects the presence of fetal and maternal disorders of pregnancy.
  • Supports the provision of holistic, non-interventional obstetrical care when appropriate.
  • Delivers babies, either vaginally or by cesarean section.
  • Supports a patient's choice focused on woman/family centered care.
  • Involves the patient and family members explaining diagnosis, plan of care, possible outcomes, and other pertinent information.
  • Discusses and prescribes contraceptives and recommends or refers for fertility drugs.
  • Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Ensures that proper patient documentation is timely, accurate, complete, and is compliant with office, NHCH and government entities.
  • Creates treatment plans and enters orders in a timely manner which are implemented by appropriate staff.
  • Counsels patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care a social and environmental concerns.
  • Works with practice management to ensure proper compliance with billing, coding and CPT code assignment.
  • Interacts positively with NHCH staff.
  • Provides inter-departmental medical consultation as requested.
  • Coordinates care for patients needing specialty services.
  • Provides on-call services, as directed by Medical Director, Ambulatory.
  • Responds to calls in time required by Department Rules and Regulations, specialty privileges.
  • Promotes a functional team approach to service delivery.
  • Gives feedback to and accepts feedback from all staff in a respectful manner.
  • Acts in a positive and professional manner, complying with practice policies, procedures and federal and state laws.
  • Participates in the development of medical services, including protocols, standard procedures, and management of patient-care-related activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or ECFMG certification.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Board certified or board eligible in OB/GYN medicine. If board eligible, must become board certified with in the time frames established by the medical staff by­laws.
  • Current BLS and NRP certification.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience in an ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of proficiency in the delivery of obstetrical and gynecological medical and surgical care to patient of all ages.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the NHCH medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
 
 
Base salary begins at $368,343/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
