The Queen's Health System is the largest health care system in the state of Hawai'i and houses the only comprehensive heart failure program in the state. It is also the only hospital in Hawai'i to rank in the US News and World report listing of the nation's best hospitals.

Our advanced heart failure team currently supports an active ECMO program, and cares for patients post LVAD and cardiac transplantation, and we are developing a LVAD program. The heart failure program is supported by 3 heart failure faculty, 5 RN coordinators, a pharmacist, social worker, and 2 nurse practitioners. Our heart failure physicians perform right and left heart catheterizations, endomyocardial biopsies, and CARDIOMEMS implantation. We also have a cardiac amyloid program, a cardio-oncology program, and are active in clinical research and clinical trials including projects studying gene expression profiling in cardiac transplant patients, heart failure quality improvement, and novel PA pressure monitoring devices. The program is supported by an excellent administrative staff as well as medical residents and cardiology fellows (teaching services).

As The Queen's Medical Center is affiliated with the University of Hawai'i, physicians hired into the practice receive a faculty appointment appropriate to their experience. Our cardiologists directly supervise and mentor our cardiology fellows, both in clinical and research settings.

On average, heart failure call occurs 1:4 weeks, and inpatient CCU coverage (teaching service) 1:6 weeks.
