JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Provides clinical services for the Comprehensive Weight Management Program on Oahu and/or Neighbor Island CWMP Clinics through direct patient care. Works with the Director to develop and organize the clinical standards, protocols, services and quality management for the CWMP.  

  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Delivers efficient, culturally sensitive, cost effective, high quality medical care in the CWMP.
  • Evaluates potential bariatric surgery candidates to determine operative risk and ensures the appropriate management of their medical conditions in preparation for surgery.
  • Conducts functional assessment, determines exercise tolerance, and writes appropriate exercise prescription for the bariatric patient.
  • Re-evaluates post-operative bariatric surgery patients, according to the established post- operative follow-up schedule, to determine nutrition and metabolic status, and status of obesity related co-morbid conditions.
  • Responsible for evaluating patient status at time of discharge from Medical Center to determine appropriate post-operative medication regimen. Writes discharge orders pertinent to post-operative medication regimen.
  • Communicates, as appropriate, with patient’s PCP to ensure coordination and continuity of medical care.
  • Participates in the CWMP support group, as well as, monthly informational meetings, for CWMP and morbidly obese patients.
  • Participates in weekly multi-disciplinary patient care conferences and daily hospital rounds.
  • Educates and is a resource for information regarding the care of the morbidly obese patient.
  • Educates physicians, house staff, nurses, ancillary staff.
  • Educates the community regarding comprehensive weight management and the availability of services.
  • Functions as lead physician for neighbor island clinics. Conducts clinics and information sessions on the neighbor islands.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Board certified or board qualified in General Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Bariatric Medicine. If not board certified at hire, must be board certified within two (2) years of hire.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QMC medical staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine.
  • Experience in Weight Management Program

  

Base salary begins at $249,864/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
