Job Title: Senior Electronics and Automation Engineer  
Location: Indianapolis, IN 
Compensation:  $120,000 – $140,000/year
Must be able to get Security Clearance
 
Our client is a leading manufacturer of additive machines specializing in metal 3D printing. They are seeking a Senior Electronics and Automation Engineer to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and improving electrical / electronic control systems to ensure efficient, reliable, and increasingly automated production processes. This role requires a proactive professional with a strong background in industrial automation, electronic controls, electrical engineering, and process automation. 
 
 
Responsibilities 
  • Control System Design: Develop, program, and maintain PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces), and SCADA systems for manufacturing processes. 
  • Electrical Design: Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. 
  • System Integration: Work collaboratively with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electrical and control systems with other manufacturing equipment. 
  • Process Automation: Identify opportunities for automating manufacturing operations to improve efficiency, reduce manual intervention, and enhance production scalability. Implement and optimize automation solutions across the production floor. 
  • Process Optimization: Analyze production processes and implement control strategies to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability. 
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve issues related to electrical and control systems, minimizing downtime, and maintaining optimal production flow. 
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all electrical systems comply with applicable safety standards (e.g., NFPA 70E, OSHA). Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments. 
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of control system designs, modifications, and maintenance activities. Provide technical documentation and training to support staff. 
  • Technology Implementation: Stay updated on the latest developments in control systems, electrical engineering, and automation to implement innovative solutions. 
  • Project Management: Lead and manage projects related to the installation, upgrade, and automation of electrical and control systems, ensuring timely and budget-conscious completion. 
  • Leadership: Build a high-functioning engineering team to achieve organizational goals.  
 
Qualifications 
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, control systems engineering, or a master's or doctoral degree is preferred. 
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical and controls engineering, preferably within an automation, robotics, or mechatronics manufacturing environment. 
  • Proven experience implementing and optimizing process automation in a production setting. 
  • Proven experience in recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performing team of engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment to achieve project and organizational goals. 
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar). 
  • Knowledge of HMI and SCADA systems. 
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, schematics, and power distribution systems. 
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, PROFIBUS). 
  • Proficient in CAD software for electrical and electronic circuit design (e.g., NX, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN). 
  • Experience with robotics, motion control systems, and automated material handling systems is highly desirable.
