About the Role

 

Reporting directly to the Manager, Technology Development, this position will support technology projects, resolve outstanding IT issues as well as coordinate and perform level 1 and level 2 troubleshooting and triage. The incumbent will also provide support and assist in the development and management of key initiatives that will advance critical safety, security and operational technologies at New York Marine Terminal NYMT and New Jersey Marine Terminals NJMT. This position is based at the New Jersey Marine Terminals (NJMT).   

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist the Manager, Technology Development in the execution of projects of various sizes, complexity and types (e.g., hardware infrastructure, application development, system integrations, outsourced services).
  • Assist the Manager, Technology Development in piloting new software and hardware technology 
  • Improve and maintain CCTV coverage at NJMT and NYMT, where we are focused on utilizing the right hardware for the right purpose. 
  • Resolve outstanding IT issues for NJMT and NYMT programs and systems and assist in obtaining effective solutions to operational needs. 
  • Perform troubleshooting on existing security systems, berth application systems, metering systems and devices through escalation to resolution.
  • Conduct field visits to perform onsite verification of hardware, assess error conditions and troubleshoot technical issues.  
  • Application systems support, system monitoring including checking databases and system logs, user management, system documentation for security and auditing.
  • Support and manage telecommunications and equipment needs of NJMT and NYMT.
  • Coordinate purchase, delivery, installation, audits / inventory of equipment.
  • Improve and maintain A/V health at NJMT and NYMT.
  • Work with Central Technology, maintenance and operations units to identify, schedule, and coordinate repairs and upgrades to facility network infrastructure systems.
  • Assist the Manager, Technology Development, in implementing master data management and data governance on the Port Department level.
  • Assist the Manager Technology development with contract management, vendor management and budgeting. 
  • Securing access to Port Department facilities, NJMT and NYMT
  • Business analysis and business process mapping of facility processes.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or at least five years of relevant hands-on work experience in Information Technology, providing hardware support, application support and application development.
  • Selected candidate will be required to pass a Federal Security Background check and obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) to work in a maritime environment as required by the Department of Homeland Security.

  • Intermediate Database concepts knowledge and experience including queries, procedures and triggers

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated process documentation skills
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure with a focus on network communication 
  • Knowledge of physical security technologies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft suite of applications 
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Applications
  • Superior interpersonal skills to interact with staff at all levels, supporting departments, consultants and outside agencies.
  • Proven ability to identify problems, assess the accuracy and relevance of information, use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, develop consensus, and make recommendations.
  • IT Project Management experience for scope and requirements gathering scheduling tasks, resource coordination, and budget.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey anticipates that the actual salary offered to a successful candidate will depend on aspects such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal factors. The expected compensation range for this role is:​

 

Minimum: $ 90,012   Midpoint: $ 117,018   Maximum: $ 144,014

 

In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits employees to work remotely a maximum of one day per week, subject to operational and business needs.
