About the Department 
The Public Affairs Department consists of NYRR’s Media and Public Relations, Government Relations and Community Engagement teams. Media and Public Relations share the stories of NYRR participants, events, and programs to drive awareness to NYRR’s organization and mission, while also enhancing and protecting the company’s reputation. Government Relations & Community Engagement manages NYRR's relationships with local and state elected officials, and governmental agencies, as well as its relationships with community stakeholders, from our runners and clubs to like-minded organizations. Overall, representing NYRR's interests, Public Affairs serves as a centralized bridge and internal partner for the organization and governmental and community partners. 
  
About the Position 
Reporting to the Director of Government Affairs & Community Engagement, the lead is specifically responsible for NYRR’s day-to-day relationships and engagement with running teams, clubs, and crews across New York City. The successful candidate will establish and grow relationships with these groups, increasing opportunities of engagement with NYRR races, programs, and other events.  This role will help build NYRR’s visibility and impact with the local running community. Based on strategy informed by the Chief of Communications and Community and developed with the Director, the Lead will design and implement a comprehensive community outreach and engagement plan for local run clubs, deepening the organization’s engagement with runners. This position will serve as the primary contact point for the running club community and represent NYRR at Club Council meetings and events.  
 
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties): 
  • Under the Director’s purview, serving as the New York Road Runners’ run club ambassador, lead club engagement efforts for the organization:
    • Develop and implement a run club outreach and engagement plan 
    • Cultivate and grow partnerships with local run clubs to deepen engagement with NYRR programs, events, and services 
    • Help to share information about NYRR and its programs and initiatives while speaking to the mission of the organization
    • Provide customer support and assistance to run clubs by working closely with various departments including Runner’s Services and Timekeeping and scoring troubleshoot issues
    • Lead Club Council meetings and organize other run club engagements including Club Night, in collaboration with the Events Development and Production team
    • Manage all communications to run clubs. Working closely with the Marketing and Communications team on its regular emails and monthly newsletters, and emails requested by SPRP and other departments
    • Organize cross-functionalteams’ involvement in Club / Club Council quarterly meetings and other club-facing eventsIncluding agenda, meeting notes, etc.  
  • As needed, support the organization in other community engagement matters arise
  • Support volunteer recruitment and cultivation to support community engagement programs
  • Manage the Streakers program, answering email and working with EDP to produce any Streakers related events 
  
Job Requirements: 
Experience:  
  • 5-plus years’ experience leading and managing community initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Experience participating in and/or working with run clubs
  • Knowledge of the New York City run club community
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in customer service
  • Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated relationships over time
  • Ability to work well with people at all levels of an organization, developing relationships with diverse constituencies 
  • A passion for being a part of the NYRR community, health and wellness along with a commitment to the mission, programs, and future aspirations of the organization.
  • Flexible and adaptable style
  • A professional and resourceful style; and as a team player, to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time. 
  
Education & Certifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree  preferred
   
Skills and Attributes: 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
  • Ability to work occasional weekends or evenings
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to speak another language strongly preferred 
 
Other Requirements: 
  • Required to work races including but not limited to United Airlines NYC Half, RBC Brooklyn Half, and the TCS New York City Marathon.
  • Required to visit/attend run club runs/events
  • Operate in a hybrid environment, working in-office a minimum of 2 days per week.  
  
Salary: 76K
