About the Department
The Strategy, Planning and Analytics Department works collaboratively with each department across the organization to support strategy formulation, growth plan execution, and project implementation. The team provides the organization with in-depth analytical support in evaluating existing operations and new business opportunities. They help lead and advise cross-functional project teams in executing the many action items and special projects that have been designed to help NYRR continue to reach its strategic objectives.  
 
About the Position
The Director, Project Management will report to the Vice President of Strategy, Planning, and Analytics with the core responsibility of leading project management for all critical tasks on major cross-functional initiatives as well as special projects designed to help NYRR reach its strategic objectives.
 
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties):
Project Management Responsibilities:
  • Lead project management of largest and most critical events and special initiatives; manage schedules, budgets, and overall project organization and ensure work is progressing as planned.
  • Instill Project Management best practices at NYRR by further developing project templates, documentation, contingency planning, training materials, and implementation of new cloud-based work operating system.
  • Actively monitor project risks and scope creep to identify potential problems/risks; and proactively identify solutions and lead team to address these issues.
  • Effectively and efficiently plan and prioritize all deliverables and resources working across multiple projects and handling potential conflicts. 
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis to support project planning and strategy recommendations
  • Develop detailed project work plans and deliverables.
  • Monitoring day-to-day activities and progress of project teams; ensuring flow of information among stakeholders; strategy/recommendations/contingency planning and analyses as required
  • Other projects and initiatives as assigned.
 
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Effectively manage employee performance through communication of expectations and standards
  • Prepare performance appraisals. Work with next level management when employee performance does not meet standards
  • Provide effective feedback and coaching to employees, including potential areas of improvement
  • Create goals for the team and individual employees
  • Encourage an environment of transparency, support, development, and growth
  • Delegate and distribute tasks and responsibilities appropriately
  • Ensure employees and staff adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Make decisions based on best interest of organization
  • Promote team culture that coincides with NYRR mission and core values
 
Job Requirements:
Experience:
  • 6+ years of project management and/or change management experience  
  • Demonstrated experience with identifying critical path project risks and driving potential solutions
  • 2-3 years of Managerial experience, preferred
  • Team leadership and managing team members’ portfolios and professional development
 
Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field required, or equivalent experience.
  • Project Management certification preferred

  • Superb time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; aptitude to work with a variety of internal and external constituencies
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team on collaborative assignments
  • Ability to exercise discretion with confidential matters and information
  • Fluency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams
  • Knowledge of the New York City running community and run clubs
  • Familiar with NYC communities across all five boroughs
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion 
Other Requirements:
  • Experience in sports (especially running!) at any level a plus
  • Heart, humor and an appreciation for the value of physical fitness
  • All staff are required to work the NYC Half Marathon, Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.
 
 
Salary: 93K - 103K
