What you’ll do

  • Responsible for overall people management of the Construction staff, including talent identification, recruiting, and development
  • Develop, implement, and communicate value-driven construction techniques and production procedures, including value-engineering and other cost savings opportunities
  • Oversee warranty activities to ensure excellence and consistency as defined by superior quality workmanship to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Develop, monitor and adhere to building budgets, work schedules, labor forecasts with a view towards maximum efficiency
  • Review and understand market trends and identify opportunities for the company
  • Review budgets with an understanding of market pricing
  • Utilize financial acumen on construction financials and metrics to include house cost and overhead management
  • Skillful forecasting of business plans and meeting budgets and goals set for the Division
  • Develop relationships with new vendors for building vendor bench strength
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field of Business, with a high level of business acumen and a commitment to continuous learning
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the residential construction industry, including warranty with expert knowledge and understanding of residential home building disciplines
  • Must possess or obtain (within the first year of employment) a General Contractor’s license within the division’s respective jurisdictions
  • Demonstrated ability to work with external parties, including homeowners, local construction associations, trade partners, suppliers, and industry peers
  • Extremely well-organized, flexible, ability to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Understanding of local building codes, National Electrical Code, OSHA Guidelines, and other applicable building codes and practices
  • Experience in a computerized environment for production planning, analysis, etc.
  • Professional experience dealing ethically with people/situations/issues and ability to demonstrate what processes are applied in decision-making which reflect professionalism and integrity
  • Working knowledge of house building and construction material purchasing
  • Ability to establish credibility, trust and build relationships with people at all levels of the organization, including but not limited to community site staff, sales and marketing, contracts and purchasing, finance, Design Studio and land acquisition/development
  • Excellent communication and negotiating skills; ability to analyze and look for trends with superior estimating skills.
  • Prior experience in preparing and analyzing budgets
  • Superior computer skills in MS Office – in particular Excel
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong focus on execution
  • Strategic mindset with a practical orientation
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Positive attitude, responsive and action-oriented
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Knowledge of Build-Pro and JD Edwards preferred
  • Position requires sitting, walking, standing and project onsite surveying (standing, moving over uneven terrain, climbing stairs, ladders, etc.)
  • Frequent driving to communities required -- must have valid driver's license
