JOB TITLE: Coin Room Clerk
DEPARTMENT: Finance
REPORTS TO: Coin Room Lead
JOB FUNCTION: Under general supervision, the Coin Room Clerk assists in the secure collection, counting, recording, and preparation for deposit of all farebox and related transit revenues, and supports the operation, cleaning, and basic maintenance of fare collection equipment and the coin room.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
• Collect, sort, and count farebox revenues manually and by using coin and currency counting equipment.
• Prepare fare revenues and related documentation for secure transport and bank deposit.
• Exchange farebox vaults and deposit revenue into receiver units.
• Operate forklifts or other assigned equipment when required for vault handling and movement of materials.
• Provide security and accountability for revenues, the coin room, and fare collection equipment while on duty.
• Operate revenue collection equipment, including probes, fareboxes, and related processing devices.
• Assist with inventory of fareboxes, vaults, revenue supplies, and service vehicles.
• Maintain accurate logs, counts, and daily activity records as assigned.
• Clean and maintain the coin room and associated equipment to support safe and efficient operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Inventory spare fare boxes, vaults, probes, keys and tickets.
• Advise maintenance foremen of any needed repairs of fare collection equipment and verify satisfactory completion of repairs.
• Assume additional responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. An Associate’s Degree is preferred.
Other:
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in revenue collection including previous dealings with
• large amounts of money.
• Knowledge of cashier/bank operations to include Federal Reserve requirements.
• Must be knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of fare collection equipment.
• Should be certified to operate a forklift.
• Previous supervisory experience necessary.
• Must possess strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
• Must possess good oral, written and communications skills.
• Must be able to operate a personal computer and be proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Must possess good basic math skills and be able to use a calculator.
• Must be able to professionally deal with the public and co-workers both on the telephone and in person. Must be bondable and be able to pass a background security check.
• Requires ability to handle numerous activities at one time.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
Environment:
• Extensive standing and walking are required throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, crouch, and perform repetitive hand motions.
• Must be able to climb in and out of buses to remove and replace farebox vaults safely and efficiently.
• Work may involve exposure to weather, dust, engine fumes, chemicals, and high noise levels.
• Close visual attention and the ability to hear instructions, alarms, and equipment sounds are required for safe job performance.
• Must be available to work assigned shifts, including weekends and other non-standard hours as needed.
