Job Summary
Responsible for performing advanced revenue collection duties and serving as the lead worker for daily coin room operations. This position assists with coordinating workflow, maintaining security and accountability of farebox revenues, supporting staff training, and ensuring accurate collection, counting, processing, and preparation of fare revenues for deposit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform all essential functions of the Coin Room Clerk role, including collection, sorting, counting, and preparation of farebox revenues for deposit.
• Serve as the daily lead worker in the coin room by assigning routine tasks, monitoring workflow, and helping ensure work is completed accurately and on schedule.
• Verify counts, logs, deposit documentation, and chain-of-custody records for completeness and accuracy before submission.
• Assist with vault exchanges, revenue deposits into receiver units, and operation of counting equipment, probes, fareboxes, and related devices.
• Help maintain security of revenues, keys, vaults, fare collection equipment, and restricted-access work areas.
• Report equipment problems, count variances, security concerns, and operational issues promptly to the supervisor.
• Train and coach new or less experienced employees on procedures, safety requirements, and security standards.
• Assist the supervisor with inventory tracking for fareboxes, vaults, keys, passes, tickets, supplies, and related materials.
• Support daily reconciliation activities and maintain accurate activity logs and operational records.
• Serve as point person for routine operational questions when the supervisor is unavailable.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• At least two to three years of cash-handling, revenue collection, warehouse, banking, transit, or closely related experience preferred.
• Prior experience serving as a lead worker, trainer, or senior technician preferred.
• Basic math, counting, reconciliation, and recordkeeping skills required.
• Ability to work accurately with large volumes of coin and currency and maintain strict confidentiality and accountability.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail in a security-sensitive environment.
• Must be bondable and able to pass a background security check.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Forklift experience or ability to obtain certification preferred.
Physical and Working Conditions
• Extensive standing and walking are required throughout the workday.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, climb, and perform repetitive hand motions.
• Must be able to climb in and out of buses and safely remove and replace farebox vaults.
• Work may involve exposure to weather, dust, fumes, chemicals, and high noise levels.
• Must be able to hear instructions, alarms, and equipment sounds and visually verify counts, records, and equipment operation.
• Must be available to work assigned shifts, including weekends and non-standard hours as needed.
