Job Title:Affiliate Pitching Coach

Department:Player Development

Reports to:Minor League Pitching Coordinator, Minor League Assistant Pitching Coordinator, Director of Player Development

Status:                       Exempt

 

Primary Objective:  Support the Director, Player Development, Coordinator, Pitching, Assistant Coordinator, Pitching in all facets of Pitcher development, education, preparation and planning. Consistently communicate and foster a positive “team first” environment and culture.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage the activity for all pitchers assigned to your affiliate.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the Pitching Coordinator and Assistant Pitching Coordinator on all observations, suggested mechanical or role changes and/or pitch development plans. 
  • Collaborate with the Affiliate Field Manager on pitcher availability, pitch counts, in game moves and employ strategies that are consistent with Mariners Player Development (PD) philosophies.
  • Collaborate with Baseball Operations (BB Ops) personnel in developing and implementing Player Plans.
  • Ensure that all pitching related technical, advance scouting and statistical initiatives are being met.
  • Create and maintain a positive work environment with a standard of excellence and accountability.
  • Represent the BB Ops department in effectively communicating messages, plans or instructions during meetings with assigned players and staff (i.e. transactions, Player Plans, etc.).
  • Build and maintain relationships with affiliate personnel (Front Office, etc.).
  • Communicate with Pitching Coordinator and Assistant Pitching Coordinator regarding the progress of all assigned pitchers and programs.
  • Consistently communicate with affiliate Trainers and other leaders in the Mariners High Performance (HP) department regarding pitcher health and availability.
  • Assist with Peak Performance and Community Involvement as needed.  Communicate with players and build trust in programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee all pre and postgame instruction and fundamental work sessions (i.e. bullpens, defensive drills, conditioning, etc.).
  • Maintain and monitor daily pitching logs and charts for each pitcher on staff.
  • Conduct pregame Pitcher/Catcher meetings and postgame (next day) recaps.
  • Assign non-game pitchers with in-game duties (charts, radar gun, cameras, etc.).
  • Prepare and file expenses in a timely, accurate and fiscally responsible manner.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Prior playing or coaching experience.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions:

  • Attend and assist with pre and/or postseason camps and events as assigned by the Director, PD.

 

The Mariners are committed to providing competitive pay, perks, and benefits packages for our valued Team Members.  
 
The anticipated starting pay for this role is between $50,000-$70,000, depending on work locationAll perks are subject to eligibility requirements and availability and may be modified or amended from time to time.
