Compliance Specialist
Description
Position Summary:
Provide assistance to the Compliance Manager with projects and duties related to this department, which include maintaining the credit union’s compliance program. This will be done through a systematic and disciplined approach of examining and evaluating data, loan files, and operational processes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists in maintaining a well-defined, effective monitoring and implementation process to manage compliance requirements of the credit union in a manner consistent with operating philosophy of the credit union, management directives, and with Board approved policies.
- Assists in the administration of the credit union’s BSA and OFAC policies by conducting tasks such as reviewing monitoring reports in Verafin, investigating alerts triggered in Verafin, from staff or third parties.
- Assists in developing and maintaining departmental procedures.
- Review fair lending compliance reports and monitor complaints.
- Test files for regulatory compliance including: TRID, RESPA, HOEPA, HMDA, SAFEA, FHA, Flood, TILA, ECOA, FCRA, FACTA, UDAAP, ESIGN, MLA, SCRA, BSA/AML/OFAC and applicable state laws.
- Assists with HMDA data integrity process and reporting.
- On an on-going basis, review laws and regulations that impact the credit union’s lending compliance requirements and communicate new and emerging issues to the organization.
- Perform other duties as required, consistent with the goals, objectives, and responsibilities of the department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills. Able to review and understand processes, systems, policies, and regulations in detail. Discern their relationship to compliance.
- Ability to maintain independence, resist influence, and maintain objectivity in producing findings and recommendations for the organization.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly.
- Knowledge of internal controls, regulations, and risk management processes related to financial institutions.
- Ability to build relationships with business units, coach staff, and educate to improve results.
- Skills in documenting and presenting findings and recommendations. Excellent report writing skills.
- Strong numeric aptitude.
- Skills in using Excel to validate and analyze data.
Education and Experience:
- Experience reviewing and analyzing data, account transactions, and member history to manage risk.
- Previous experience with the Bank Secrecy Act/OFAC or lending compliance will be given preference.
- Prior experience with Verafin will be given preference.
- Experience working remotely preferred.
- Associate degree or a minimum of 2 years related professional experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Long periods of sitting will occur regularly.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving 15 lbs. or less.
- Use of a computer and telephone required.
- Occasional bending, stooping, or crouching may be required.
