The Network Engineer works closely with the Network Architect to evaluate, design, document, install, test, implement, monitor, and maintain complex technology solutions and services. Provides clients with consulting on the use of solutions.

Responsibilities

  1. Ensures high-availability of enterprise network.
  2. Collaborates with network team and others to optimize enterprise network performance, reliability, and security.
  3. Configures, installs, troubleshoots, and maintains network devices and services (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, QoS, VoIP, wireless, etc.) according to best practices and standards.
  4. Monitors network performance, availability, and reliability using tools such as Wireshark, PRTG, Netflow, Solarwinds, etc.
  5. Evaluates network resource utilization for capacity planning.
  6. Provides level 2/3 support for troubleshooting and resolving issues escalated internally within IT.
  7. Works within established configuration and change management policies and procedures to ensure notification, approval and success of changes.
  8. Acts as liaison with service providers, vendors, and others for project coordination, team communication, and issue resolution.
  9. Possesses the ability to read, interpret and analyze schematics and wiring diagrams; reasoning skills in order to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
  10. Ensures compliance with safety regulations and observance of safe work practices.
  11. Trains, develops, and maintains professional growth through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of the latest trends in field of expertise.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or closely related discipline; or a minimum of (7) seven years of progressively responsible technical experience.
  • Minimum of (5) five years of experience working with and troubleshooting complex, highly-available networks.
  • Cisco Certification (minimum CCNA Routing and Switching).
  • Network infrastructure design and best practice knowledge.
  • Industry experience building and maintaining large, redundant data, voice, and video networks for LAN/WAN.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, draw conclusions, and devise solutions to complex problems.
  • Demonstrated experience with networking protocols and services (e.g. Rapid-PVST+, EIGRP, IGMPv3, BGP, 802.11 wireless standards, AAA, configuration via CLI, etc.).
  • Experience with network security administration including firewalls, IPS, switches, and routers.
  • Demonstrated familiarity troubleshooting and monitoring with tools such as Wireshark, PRTG, Netflow, and Solarwinds.
  • Demonstrated excellent communications skills when working with peers, customers, and others.

Preferred:

  • Cisco CCNP Certification (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
  • Experience with metro Ethernet, data center interconnect, and related protocols and services (e.g. OTV, etc.) particularly in a hospital environment.
  • Experience with Unified Communications troubleshooting.
  • Experience with network security design, implementation, and maintenance including firewalls, IPS, router and switch security configuration, NIST framework, etc.
  • Experience with APIC-EM; configuration management using Ansible, Chef, or similar; and network scripting with Python, or similar.
  • Experience with Cisco ACS, Prime, ISE, ACI, etc.
  • Experience with Nexus series switches and UCS.
