The ED Technician position participates in the management and provision of nursing care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric emergency department patients, with the supervision of a registered nurse. All Emergency Department Technicians will work in both the Emergency Department Treatment Area and the Triage Area.
Must have excellent customer service skills and be a team player. Must recognize changes in patient condition and report changes to the appropriate person. This position will assists in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients and will responded compassionately to patient requests and call lights in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
Emergency Department Treatment Area:
- Provides direct care in accordance with treatment plans, as directed by the charge nurse, RN or nursing director.
- Accompanies patients to various treatments throughout the facility.
- Completes required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Performs and assists with patient lifts, transfers, positioning and ambulation.
- Observes report and document questionable patient conditions to the RN on duty.
- Assists with patient meals and bathing as directed.
- Performs nursing care according to the population served on the unit as referenced in the Administrative, Scope of Services Policy.
- Complies with laws and regulations in maintaining patient information.
- Performs nursing care according to the population served on the unit as referenced in the Administrative, Scope of Services Policy.
- Obtains EKG’s, Foley Catheter, and phlebotomy for lab studies and discontinues IV catheter.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Emergency Department Triage Area:
- Provides direct care including first aid, vital signs and assist in implementation of treatment plans as directed by the Designated Charge nurse (RN), or nursing director.
- Responds to emergency situations and provide first aid as needed during the emergency intake process.
- Reassures patients and bystanders by working in a confident, efficient manner.
- Completes quick patient registration and witnessed consent to treat.
- Expedites triage by communicating chief complaint to Triage RN.
- Transfers and accompanies patients to various treatments throughout the facility.
- Completes required documentation accurately and timely.
- Performs and assists with patient lifts, transfers, positioning, and ambulation.
- Observes, reports, and documents questionable patient conditions to the RN on duty.
- Performs care according to the population served on the unit as referenced in the Administrative, Scope of Services Policy.
- Performs other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current Kansas Certified Nurse Aide license, and/or current Kansas EMT certificate, and/or Certified/Registered as a Medical Assistant
- Current BLS certification
- Excellent customer service
Preferred:
- High school diploma or equivalent
