The Phlebotomy Supervisor coordinates the operation and activity of their designated section. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of accurate and reliable collection of laboratory specimens. Daily responsibilities include: management of staffing, supply inventory, and performance improvement activities. The Phlebotomy Supervisor performs other technical or managerial duties as necessary. The Phlebotomy Supervisor is an active member of the Laboratory Leadership team.
Responsibilities
- Promotes the vision and mission of Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
- Demonstrates proficiency and core competency including; punctual and responsible in attendance, flexibility in scheduling, appropriate independent judgment and initiative, professional appearance and demeanor, promotes teamwork, maintains positive attitude.
- Communicates effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Handles all specimens following standard precautions including checking specimens and paperwork for two (2) identifiers.
- Oversees scheduling, orientation, and annual competency training of Phlebotomy staff.
- Does coaching, mentoring, EDP’s and corrective disciplinary action when needed.
- Holds department meetings to communicate pertinent information and provide educational opportunities.
Qualifications
Required:
- MLT (ASCP) or MT (ASCP) or equivalent; OR
- Certified or Certification Eligible Phlebotomist with previous supervisory experience.
Preferred:
- Two (2) years or more of current experience
