Remote-first

Since March 2020, our Zoomers have worked remotely and reported an overall better work-life balance with more time for family and personal wellness.

At the end of 2021, LegalZoom made the official commitment to being a remote-first company. Remote-first means that there is no expectation that Zoomers come into an office for a fixed number of days outside of those employees identified as essential onsite workers. While we remain a remote-first culture, our local offices have evolved as collaboration spaces for Zoomers to meet and engage in person.

This position will be (remote/or SF Bay Area, LA Metro, and Austin Metro office location/s).

Overview

Being a lawyer on our legal team is a unique experience where the company’s core product and focus align with your craft as a lawyer. Our legal team comes from a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences and we thrive on finding a path to yes with creative solutions for our cross functional business partners. We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative Product Counsel to join our team. You will

• Engage closely with our product, engineering, marketing, and data teams to deeply understand our technology and serve as a strategic partner in helping shape and maintain legally compliant products.
• Provide practical in-depth analysis and guidance on legal issues and risks, complex products and company policies in a risk-tolerant, but compliance-oriented environment.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and international laws and regulations, in close collaboration with colleagues in our Legal and Compliance teams.
• Identify potential issues concerning data, privacy, and intellectual property for referral to, and collaboration with internal specialists.
• Help develop legal policies and best practice procedures for all aspects of our marketing programs and initiatives.
• Look for opportunities to create sustainable and scalable processes and advice for internal stakeholders, including providing internal education when needed. 
• Stay up-to-date and keep stakeholders advised on laws, regulations and trends relevant to technology, financial services and payments, data governance and privacy, advertising and marketing, and consumer protection.

You have

• Current license to practice law in a U.S. state. JD or equivalent with 5+ years of relevant legal experience. 
• In-house experience at a technology company and familiarity with intellectual property and/or marketing matters is preferred. 
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Compliance, Security, and outside counsel.
• Comfort in challenging the status quo and preconceived notions of what is possible. A get to “yes” approach in working with the business.
• Excellent judgment, analytical rigor, clear communication, and business pragmatism.
• Top-notch analytical skills with experience owning projects from concept to finish.
• A growth mindset and enjoy tackling challenges and problem solving when there is no clear answer or owner. 
• Comfort navigating gray areas and interpreting and applying the law in unsettled contexts in a fast-paced environment.

LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($122,400 - $176,700). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
