Remote-first
Since March 2020, our Zoomers have worked remotely and reported an overall better work-life balance with more time for family and personal wellness.
At the end of 2021, LegalZoom made the official commitment to being a remote-first company. Remote-first means that there is no expectation that Zoomers come into an office for a fixed number of days outside of those employees identified as essential onsite workers. While we remain a remote-first culture, our local offices have evolved as collaboration spaces for Zoomers to meet and engage in person.
This position will be (remote/or SF Bay Area, LA Metro, and Austin Metro office location/s).
Overview
LegalZoom is looking for a senior content designer to join the product design team. We’re in an exciting period of growth and product building, and we’re seeking a talented, passionate person to join our team and help fuel the success of small businesses. This is a role for someone who wants to help shape the future direction of LegalZoom products and who has a ruthless attention to detail, is comfortable with ambiguity, loves collaborating cross-functional partners, and inspires others with work that always puts the customer first. You will
● Partner with product designers, product managers, and engineers to solve real problems for people as they start and grow small businesses.
● Write clear, concise, engaging product content and turn complex regulatory and financial jargon into language that anyone can understand.
● Craft UI text, product flows, landing pages, emails, and other product design deliverables across both web and mobile.
● Express LegalZoom’s brand voice consistently and effectively across product touchpoints following brand guidelines and in-house editorial style—while pushing the boundaries wherever appropriate to keep it fresh.
● Maintain a close partnership with brand copy, contributing to an evolving content design system, ensuring consistency of brand voice and product messaging across all customer touchpoints.
● Contribute to an evolving product design system, ensuring consistency of existing patterns and establishing new ones whenever appropriate.
● Demonstrate familiarity with industry best practices for content design, accessibility, and product design, and be able to apply these practices to improve the quality of deliverables and the customer experience.
● Generate lots of ideas for execution, proactively seek feedback and critique from designers and cross-functional partners, and have a strong point of view that you can back up with personal expertise, customer input, and industry trends.
● Collaborate effectively—including creatively handling constraints—with partners across brand, marketing, product, engineering, legal, and c-suite.
● Juggle multiple projects at one time, using strong communication skills to manage time and expectations appropriately.
● Think on your feet and execute quickly against deadlines.
● Contribute productively to the product design team culture by participating in critique and reviews, sharing inspiration and trends, and being an active part of the team’s day-to-day operations.
You have
● Obsession with solving customer problems, championing the customer’s needs, and expressing product experiences in ways they can navigate with ease.
● 3+ years of experience in content design, UX writing, content strategy, technical writing, or a related content or design discipline. Experience writing content for application UI is a must, ideally both native mobile and responsive web.
● Bachelor’s degree or more in English, History, Journalism, or similar field. Certificate from a UX Writing or Content Design bootcamp also works.
● Design acumen and expertise that’s focused on content, but may also span interaction patterns, visual execution, motion, and more. You’re a product designer of content, not a copywriter.
● Fluency with design thinking as a practice and effective design process.
● Strong online portfolio showcasing your craft, impact, and collaborative process.
● Top-notch written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to present your work to cross-functional teams and leadership.
● Tenacious cross-functional partnership, with an ability to build trust and a knack for finding compromises with key stakeholders and business partners.
● Comfort with leading and participating in customer research of all kinds.
● Curiosity and a willingness to test new ideas quickly to drive business results and improve the customer experience.
● Basic understanding of key business metrics and how design plays a role in driving them.
● Commitment to quality and speed without compromising on either.
● Mastery of Google docs and comfort with working directly in Figma, especially working with components and managing stakeholder feedback.
LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($108,000-$216,000). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
