Remote-first

Since March 2020, our Zoomers have worked remotely and reported an overall better work-life balance with more time for family and personal wellness.

At the end of 2021, LegalZoom made the official commitment to being a remote-first company. Remote-first means that there is no expectation that Zoomers come into an office for a fixed number of days outside of those employees identified as essential onsite workers. While we remain a remote-first culture, our local offices have evolved as collaboration spaces for Zoomers to meet and engage in person.

This position will be (remote/or SF Bay Area, LA Metro, and Austin Metro office location/s).

Overview

The Data Science and Engineering team at LegalZoom helps us make measurably better decisions, faster.  Marketing is a big part of what we do as a company, driving our growth and user engagement.

As a Principal Data Scientist on our Marketing Data Science team, you’ll tackle many of the existential questions facing our marketing spend. You will work with Marketing leaders, Product Managers and  Engineers to improve Legalzoom practices. You will think critically and apply statistical methods to solve challenges in these areas. Questions such as how do we optimize our marketing spend? How do we balance brand and performance spend? How do we think about customer lifetime value?

You will

        Be a key driver of marketing strategy by thinking beyond immediate analysis and understanding the long-term implications of actions

        Champion the development of our technical arsenal to define marketing spend across channels;

        Use the appropriate statistical methods to build attribution and media-mix models;

        Be a Subject Matter Expert when it comes to instrumentation that allows us to measure and implement change;

        Be a trusted advisor to the CMO and the Sr. Director of DS to define spend levels in the short and the long run;

        Perform descriptive and predictive analyses to form hypotheses about how we can grow the business using Marketing channels

        Design and run experiments to test our hypotheses, including defining metrics that enable us to understand Marketing experience

        Interpret experiment results and use them to drive strategic and tactical recommendations for how to improve our Marketing channels

        Provide insights at scale through building pipelines and dashboards to provide a more complete view of our products

        Work closely withMarketing leaders, Product Managers and  Engineers partners to help them understand the data and form their own hypotheses so we can move faster

        Explore, automate, and leverage our data in analyses that will shape Legalzoom Marketing

        Work with fellow data scientists to continually improve our code and data best practices, prioritizing long-term data hygiene

 

You have

        Basic qualifications: M.S. or Bachelors degree in Math, Economics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields (If M.S. degree, a minimum of 3+ years of industry experience required and if Bachelor's degree, a minimum of 4+ years of industry experience as a Data Scientist or equivalent)

        Advanced SQL expertise

        Experience with Marketing Data Science in a wide variety of problems including Attribution and MMM

        Understanding of experimental design (e.g. A/B experiments) and statistical methods (e.g. Bayesian inference)

        Ability and experience in extracting insights from data, and summarizing learnings / takeaways

        Experience working on web analytics (behavioral analytics)

        Solid understanding of source data, its strengths, weaknesses, semantics, and formats; solid knowledge of logical and physical data modeling concepts (relational and dimensional)

 

LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($126,000.00 - $256,500.00). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
