Remote-first
Since March 2020, our Zoomers have worked remotely and reported an overall better work-life balance with more time for family and personal wellness.
At the end of 2021, LegalZoom made the official commitment to being a remote-first company. Remote-first means that there is no expectation that Zoomers come into an office for a fixed number of days outside of those employees identified as essential onsite workers. While we remain a remote-first culture, our local offices have evolved as collaboration spaces for Zoomers to meet and engage in person.
This position will be (remote/or SF Bay Area, LA Metro, and Austin Metro office location/s).
The Role
The Data Science and Engineering team at LegalZoom helps us make measurably better decisions, faster. We do this through everything from shaping our product strategy to running experiments that let us know how well our strategy is performing. We work very closely with other parts of the business such as Product Management, Marketing, and Operations to help them identify and tackle the biggest opportunities for us to better serve our customers. We also work very closely with our other colleagues in Engineering on everything from helping them build data-driven products to making sure that we are taking advantage of the latest advancements in data infrastructure (we are in the midst of migrating our data stack to the cloud).
As a Staff Data Engineer on our Data Platform Engineering team, you will maintain and evolve our production data platform which powers all our data engineering and data science workflows. The ideal candidate for this role is somewhere between a traditional data engineer and a devops engineer. You see our data platform as a product and the data integration, analytics engineering, data science, and data consumers as our customers. With this framework in mind, you will help design, implement, and manage robust data platforms for batch processing, streaming, metadata management, and machine learning. You'll achieve all of this while keeping in mind principles like IaC, security, CI/CD, monitoring and logging, idempotency, testing, and documentation. .
You Will
● Help envision and architect the future of our data platform. You will have a huge impact on the overall tech stack we will use to process the rich data available at LegalZoom.
● Contribute to our Data Engineering roadmap, working in partnership with Data Integration, Analytics Engineering, & Data Science to define priorities.
● Help build and Implement a wide range of technologies to manage our data infrastructure, test our data pipelines, and process batch and streaming data at scale. Tools such as Snowflake, Spark, Airflow, dbt, Terraform, Kafka, and Github Actions to name a few.
● Identify, evolve, and evangelize data engineering best practices, constantly challenging the status quo and contributing to our Data Engineering standards.
● Help define, implement, and manage a scalable Data Governance and Privacy strategy by partnering with Legal, Compliance, and Engineering. Implement a Data Catalog/Metadata management tool to automate and track PII and other sensitive data.
● Proactively identify pain points that Data Engineering & Data Science face with our existing data modeling workflows and work to make them easier.
● Build CICD pipelines and testing frameworks for our ELT code to ensure no bad code makes it into production. Partnering with other engineering teams such as DevOps and Product Engineering when necessary.
You Have
● 5+ years experience with Python, Scala, or Java
● 5+ years experience with implementing and managing a data warehouse such as Snowflake, Redshift, or similar.
● 5+ years experience with SQL (advanced functions and queries)
● 3+ years experience with deploying and managing tools like Airflow. If this was on Kubernetes that is a plus.
● 1+ years experience with CICD best practices in data engineering.
● Experience with a Business Intelligence tool such as Tableau, Domo, or Looker, Power BI, or similar is a plus..
LegalZoom is a remote-first company and the national range for this role is ($140,000 - $228,000). Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package.
